Hello/G'day from a Brit down under

I am a long time Britmodeller lurker who posted my first reply in a forum today so felt I should say hello.

Many thanks to all of you for the encyclopedic database of helpful advice and walkarounds, etc that I have been enjoying for quite some time.

I was a very keen 1/72 plastic aircraft modeller as a kid, My dad even treated me to an airbrush (single action) when I was 10 years old but when I went to university I found I didn't have the time to maintain my hobby.

20 years later I found myself studying very hard for post graduate medical exams and I decided that as a grown up I could justify treating myself to the expense of some 1/48 scale kits and a dual action airbrush to rekindle my childhood passion.

I have always been obsessed with helicopters, especially rescue helicopters. In my limited free time I started to build several 1/48 scale versions of the 1/72 kits I had built as a child, but I didn't actually finish any of them!

Long story short..... I passed the exams, the airbrush and the 1/48 scale kits got packed away in a box and I became a rather busy NHS emergency medicine specialist. My childhood passion was once again ignored but definitely not forgotten.

My helicopter obsession was rekindled when I had the opportunity to fly around in the real thing (very much a passenger, they wouldn't let my take the controls) as a member of one of the helicopter rescue teams based in Australia.

A 6 month trip to Australia turned into 12 months, turned into "we aren't going back to the UK are we?"

So now I am a Brit down-under, settled in Queensland.

The boxes of stuff in storage in the UK have all been delivered to our new home in Australia and I have opened them up like a kid at Christmas.

For the first time in my adult life I find myself with enough time to try and catch up on the modelling skills I lost through inactivity.

Where better to turn for help and advice than here on britmodeller?

Looking forward to being a more active member.

Alex

Hello Alex … :post1: from the windy city by the lake Chicago USA. Ive been a passenger on many Helo’s, Bell Ranger, Hughes 500, and Bell Huey. Was able to handle the controls a little in the Hughes. My favorite was the Huey, was involved with a mock combat insertion for an airshow. I was given the opportunity to sit in the door gunners position. Let me tell you its a wild ride with the doors open, and only a 3” canvas belt holding you in. Im mostly a military aircraft builder but mostly fixed wing. Ive never had luck with getting rotor’s to not break.

Welcome to the forum from an Aussie who migrated Up Over (Revenge for transportation of forebear). Plenty of very useful info to assist with one's modelling.
