You're tryin' to break into another world A world I never knew - Airfix 1/72 Gloster Meteor FR.9

After three major sessions at the decals station (That's the kitchen bunker) I finally finished all the fuselage decals except for the canopy stripes which will go on after I've unmasked it.

Afterwards I counted them all up to find that there were 150 of them.

God help me when I get to that stage on the Phantom.

I gave the fuel tanks a coats of HSS earlier today and was going to do the stencilling on them as well but I really couldn't face it tonight.

Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks for looking,

Good luck with the stencilling Alistair , crikey 150, wow.  Looking fantastic with the markings on too, great job.

Is that one of the multiple  variously sized breadbins in the backround😉

Chris

Thanks Chris,

It is indeed on of the scale breadbins.

Just not saying which particular bin is involved. :wicked:

That's it - keep him on his toes :jump_fire:

Looking lovely Alistair - you deserve a rest after 150 decals. Sheesh!

Thanks Roger,

I got a bit of a shock when I totalled them up.

It does seem a bit excessive for a 1/72 kit of this size but now that they're done it feels worth it.

Alistair

That's the one thing that stays my hand when I reach for that kit.  I really want to make it, but I'll have to pump my self up to do it.  Kinda' like lifting weights... :D I agree with you though, after all the effort it does seem worth it.   I think they look great on the Meteor!

Thanks very much.

I got the remaining stencils on the fuel tanks done today and will stick some picks up when they've settled.

Hi Alistair,

Your perseverance is paying off, it is beginning to look very nice indeed.

I always find the decal stage quite therapeutic, even if there are loads of them to apply.

Its going to look great once finished I am sure.

Thanks for sharing,

Kevin

Fantastic work, Alistair, the stencils sound like an absolute marathon job, though. Something to look forward to.....

Cheers,

Thanks Mark,

It was a bit of a grind but worth it and good practice for the Phantom. :D

Thanks very much,

I usually enjoy getting the decals on.

The problem here was the size of the majority of the stencils and trying to get them to sit down in the right place before they lose adhesion.

Definitely worth it though.

Stencils on the fuel tanks done and the tanks glued in place.

Time for a clear coat and a little light weathering next episode.

I'm getting the undercarriage together but as everything is in two pieces it seems that having the tyres separate for painting is a little superfluous as when you put the bits together you still have seams to deal with on the tyres and the mudguards.

One more bit for you Mark,

The tyres need a sanding on the flat side to get a good fit in the hubs and allowing the two halves of the mudguards to fit together.

Thanks for looking,

Looks great Alistair,  I like the contrast between the underside colour and the tanks,  nearly there now.

Great work

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I'm quite chuffed with the look of it.

Just need to get the undercarriage looking decent and it's not farr of finishing.

Alistair

Well, it's funny how much you can get done when you've got a day off.

I gave this a clear coat last night and this morning after i was rudely awoken by a phone call I gave it a very light flory wash and some oil work to fade things out a bit.

This was followed by a sparing application of some Lifecolor Dust Wash.

On examination of the pics I thought the dust wash a little too forward so took some of it off.

After that I got the undercarriage, airbrakes, pitot, aerial and the underside doohickey fitted.

I'm just waiting on paint drying on the gear doors and after I've removed a bit more of the dust she'll get a tinted satin coat and that should be that.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Thanks very much CC,

Shouldn't be too long now.

I'm off tomorrow and am hopeful I can get it all done then.

Alistair,

Looking great - I've not seen the dust wash before. Will look out for that!

Cheers,

Roger

Thanks Roger,

The Dust wash has come out a little strong but I've cleaned some more off.

It comes in a set of washes called Rain and Dust Makeup Liquid Pigments which are meant for armour but I though I could use it here.

It's the first time I've used it so it'll take some practice but the tinted clear coat should knock it all back.

Alistair

Looking very special, Alistair, very special indeed! I like the contrast of the HSS underside tanks against the PRU blue. Excellent!

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark.

I found out when fitting the undercarriage supports that the wing to fuselage fit was entirely my fault as I has transposed the wheel well parts.

So, that's one less thing to watch out for.

Cheers,

Alistair

This is looking excellent, the weathering brings it to life. Very nice how you’ve done silver fuel tanks with the blue underside too.

I’m tempted to get the 1/48 version after seeing this.
