Thanks mark,

I'm just hoping when I get to the decal stage that the flash matches up.

Looking at the bit I've done I think the Port side is a little too high and will need some touching up. We'll see.

Alistair

Looking splendid Alistair, I'm sure the decal will match.

Great work

Chris

Thanks Chris,

This was niggling at me when i got up today.

So, I cut one of the decals out for a comparison and it wasn't good.

The edges matched up mostly but the flow wasn't constant.

In consequence this,

And a short while later.

It needs a touch up on the starboard side but I think this was much easier than trying to blend a decal in.

Thanks for looking,

Great work, Alistair, that's a sound move if you ask me! Much easier and more consistent than blending the curvature and opacity of a decal, I should think.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks Mark,

I think you're right. The idea of trying to blend the decal in was starting to take over my planning for this.

All I can say is without my Infini Cutting Board this would have been so much more difficult, but I was able to cut strips of 0.7mm with good edges to work toward the tail end.

Alistair

Cracking job Alistair,  as you and Mark say, easier than sorting afterwards,  looks wonderful.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I really should have done this at first but I'm an idiot. :D.

It should all blend in with oils and fading towards the end. :fingerscrossed:

The camo came out beautifully!  Fantastic work with the white, both on the engines and the nose.  This is really a nice looking build.

Thanks very much,

It's a fun kit and once it starts coming together it gets even better.

Main stickers on.

And I've just noticed my stupidity.

5 minutes of water, Micro Set and very careful manipulation later.:worry:

That's more like it.

Once they have settled I'll tackle the multitude of stencils that are on this one.

Thanks for looking,

Applying and reading underwing serials is like dining with posh cutlery - you work your way from the outside in (i.e. from the wingtip to the wing root)...
Good save!

Thanks,

I don't know what I was thinking as I had the placement guide right in front of me.

Nice work Alistair,

Really coming to life now with the main markings applied.

Home stretch soon?

Kevin

Thanks very much,

I still have the wheels to get my head round as the dry fits I've tried haven't been stellar and doing the top side stencilling has caused me to slow down my thinking.

As you can see there is a lot of wrinkling on the inboard walkways, so, I've decided to leave them overnight to settle and then plough on with the rest tomorrow.

Thanks for looking,

Phew, that was lucky Alistair,  glad you were able to sort the underwing serial number,  looking good fella.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I got very lucky there.

Which is why I'm leaving the rest until tomorrow as I'm not pushing it.

Looking very good Alistair, nice bit of masking on the nose and a great save on the underside decal. I must confess I had to look for ages before I saw what the problem was.

I had placed the decal, flattened it, taken pictures, then laid some softener down on it and had started the page entry before I noticed.

I think I really dodged one in getting away with it.

If it had gone horribly wrong i would just have had to cut some masks and paint it.

Meanwhile I thought I should maybe get on with some other parts for this.

I had glued the additional fuel tanks together on Friday and when I dealt with the seams primed them.

Tonight they got a coat of Tamiya Lacquer Gloss Black in preparation for some High Speed Silver in a few days when they have gassed off.

Alistair,

Looking super with the decals on, and a good save on the serial! Not far to the finish line now,

Thanks Roger,

That Starboard walkway one still needs some work.

I've not had a decal wrinkle and then silver before.

More softener if that doesn't help I'll try Mr Mark Softer and if that doesn't work Micro Sol.

But it has slowed me down a bit.

It looks really good Alistair. Great save on the decal, I will store that one for future reference. I never get those under wing serials right!

Thanks Andy,

I got lucky as the decals had been hit with softener but I was very careful and got it starting to lift with the brush.

A little more persuasion and a few straightening out fold overs later I got it all mobile and then very gingerly and quickly got it placed.

I've tried this before when I've messed up and the decal has broken apart.

I can only put this one down to the robustness of cartograph ones.

Cheers,

Alistair
