Ah-ha, in on page one! This looks like a very nice project, Alistair, and some PRU blue is always a bonus - that scheme is very attractive.

I could do with a few jets in my collection: chair pulled up close to the screen so I can watch closely, pint of scrumpy poured and a packet of pork scratchings opened.

Cheers,

Mark

Nice to have you aboard.

Glad you've got Pork Scratchings too.

I think I must be missing out on something...... 🤔 FOMO!!!!!

The kit comes as part of a UK renewal or membership of the Airfix Club.

Alistair

Following with interest. I’ve got one in the stash - the plastic is a huge improvement IMO

My example has a flaw in the canopy, as do the replacements I was given. How about yours?

Thanks.

Welcome Aboard.

I've had a quick look at the canopy and it appears to be fine.

Ah! So I have been missing out! Time to remedy that oversight, methinks.....

You know you want to.

Some colour has been flung at plastic.

Some of it even hit the right places.

And some paint on foil for belts.

I'm waiting for the paint to dry and then I can star assembling the seat.

Thanks for looking,

You're cracking on well with this Alistair, I'm keen to watch it's progress after trying & not quite finishing an MPM FR.9 in the recent GB. So far, I think the way this kit is engineered looks rather better.

Thanks Steve,

I'm hoping a more modern tooling will make life easier.

After the paint had dried I put the cockpit tub together and applied the decals to the seat and IP.

The IP has been hit with softener and I'll get it and the HUD/Gun Sight in place tomorrow.

If i get lucky there could be a buttoned up fuselage as well.

Thanks for looking,

Looking Great Alistair,  cracking job , I like the seat and the IP decals look great, are they the kit supplied ones, if so that's fantastic .

Chris

Thanks Chris,

The decals are indeed the kit supplied ones.

I was surprised that they had the headbox side ones but they make a huge difference.

Alistair

I did a little bit more this morning.

Agrax Earthshade was washed over the seat and the Gun Sight was fitted.

Watch out for that one Chris it's a fiddly job.

I also reseated the nose wheel bay part as it was slightly off the horizontal and after some extensive and exhaustive research* that can make the fitting of the nose cone problematic.

It also got a spray of Tamiya Flat Aluminium while I was at it and the IP dials were given a dot of Krystal Klear not that you can really see it but I'll know I've done it.

I was going to button everything up but for the life of me can't find the lead stuff I use for that.

Looking at the instructions I realised that wheel balancing weights would fit and do the job better so after an unsuccessful trip to two of our local tyre places on a freeloading excercise.

Something to do with environmental regulations on disposal of lead. I was forced to put an order in on Am@zon.:angrysoapbox.sml:

That at least gets delivered with same day delivery today.

So, more later hopefully.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Alistair,

Nice work - the cockpit is looking suitably busy!

Cheers,

Roger

Thanks Roger,

It doesn't stand up to close scrutiny but under the canopy should look OK.

If i did it again I would paint and dry brush the tub halves before joining them as there is a lot of nice detail in there that you can't reach when glued together.

Looking good and great progress Alistair,  thanks for the heads up too.

Great work

Chris

Thanks Chris,

From what I've gleaned the nose and wheels are the only real difficulties with this kit, but i'll keep you up to date.

Cheers,

Alistair

Meteor shaped object now appears… nice.  The cockpit looks very convincing, excellent work on something so small!

There was approx 8hrs between the post saying you ordered lead weights and the one where you installed them - Scotland’s Amazon delivery is awesome!

Thanks Mark,

I was just lucky as when I looked and ordered them I had 3 minutes left for same-day delivery.

One of the benefits of Prime membership, I suppose.

Colour me intrigued with regard to the balancing weights

Gondor

They are self adhesive wheel balance weights.

Come as a mix of 5 and 10 gram pieces.

You just cut the ones you need off the strip.

Hope that helps.

That does thanks, just been onto Amazon and selected a mixed set to add to my wish list as I still have some lead sheet a former neighbour gave me about twenty five years ago.

Lovely progress Alistair, the cockpit looks ab fab and everything seems to fitting together very nicely, too! Good shout on the lead weights - something I'd been quietly wondering about as I've never built a wheels-down trike!

More, please! :D

Thanks Mark,

You may have to reappraise the fitting bit shortly.

Although that may be my fault rather than the kits.

The weights were perfect for this one as they slotted in where Airfix advised.

I got the parts for the wings and engines prepped last night after work.

At that point I attempted a dry fit of the bottom wing to the fuselage, only to find that there was a 2.5mm step at the front.

Now, this may/must have been my fault as the couple of videos I've seen haven't had any issues there.

It was the wheel well side inserts that were causing the issue so after some sanding and careful slicing.

IvRHRyq.jpg

The fit is now good and may not need any filler* when glue is wielded.

*Who am I kidding this is me. :D

Mr. Surfacer troweled on to the seams. I don't do delicate.

The bits and bobs were primed and then painted with Flat Aluminium this morning.

Once dry a Seraphim Sepia wash was ladled over.

Once all that lot has settled I'll get some more bits glued together and see where I stand.

Having a blast with this one so far.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair
