Le Mans Legends...1/24 Ford GT40 P1047 Mk.II 1966

#4/2023

After the Lotus 72 not that long ago, my dad now finished another legendary race car. Well, it didn´t turn out "perfect", but which model does?
Fujimi kit which dates back to 1989, this is the 2000 edition. Thekit  decals weren´t usable, bought aftermarket ones from Slotracing Werk in Germany. They applied fine but once when dry they became a bit brittle, had to do some touch-ups with white paint. Tire decals are from Indycals. They are printed on a full decal film, to say the tire shape had to be cut out. As far as I´ve seen on original cars, the letter style was a bit different and the decals show a newer style, but better than nothing. Didn´t install the rearview mirror. Micro Klear didn´t work out and plastic or CA glue would have been to dangerous for the windshield, which btw didn´t fit that good and also was slightly too small.

The model shows one of 13! GT40 used in the 1966 Le Mans race. It was driven by US Americans Dan Gurney and Jerry Grant. The car didn´t finish the race.

Despite the problems on the way, its turned out quite splendid.

Should the underside be black though? I ask as I'm currently building the 1,2,3 cars at the moment, and need all the help I can get.

Thanks a lot!

Gotta admit I don't know, didn' really care because you don't see it normally. Kept the black plastic colour.

Very neatly built and the red really suits it.  You photos are top notch too, I particularly like the shoots taken from a low angle - Andy

Thanks!

Yes, the low angles show its beautiful classic lines, a timeless even modern design for a 60 year old car.

Nice to see this completed and nice to see different colour than usually. I must confess that I built mine as wining car...

Also it is so cool that your father has this hobby, *jealous*!

Nice job! One small point: it may look like a GT40 but it's either a "Ford Mk.II" or a "Ford GT Mk.II". It's a recent trend to erroneously refer to the big-block cars by the name "GT40". Even kit manufacturers have started doing it!
