Broplan Falcon 900, 34SQN RAAF

Recommended Posts

You may have noticed a Falcon 900 in the inspiration gallery which I finished back in 2015 (started in about 2005!). Well it's no longer in my collection so I need to add another which I will be hanging on to.

The kit

The very comprehensive instructions

The decals (which I won't be using)

The aircraft (taken at Denver in the mid 90s on a training flight to the USA (my photo)

Hopefully I don't botch this one up too much!

Wow, ambitious.

I bought the Broplan 7X some time ago and it looks like it needs a lot of work to make it presentable.

I'd love to get my hands on a nice Falcon 7x as well, might have to find that kit if Amodel doesn't release one

As a Canberran I have a little bit of an affinity with the RAAF Falcons, having seen them overhead and at the airport all the time, but it looks like you have a much more direct connection with it? Great project, good luck!

Yep , just moved here from Canberra around 12 months ago after living there for 25 years. I was at 34SQN in 1989 when the 900s arrived, posted out in 1990. Came back in the mid in 1995 and moved to a desk job just before the RAAF maintenance flight was disbanded and the BBJs turned up.

I am in this lot, 6th row back

With an obvious personal connection to the RAAF’s VIP fleet, it’s great to see you representing yet another of their Dassault ‘Brass movers’ with this Falcon kit. I’ve just clocked up 35 years at Qantas and ‘STILL’ have not build a model from the employer that has paid my wages for all that time! This should be a good one Ray, I’m sure you’ll make a great job of it (or the back-up).

Cheers and best of luck.. Dave

I was at Merimbula at the weekend and a RAAF 7X was shooting the approach before overflying us at the little beach we were at - beautiful aeroplane.

So diving right in!

Some cutting out of bits starting with the flying surfaces

52669961660_ee1512170d_b.jpg

Fuselage

Cockpit, to be tidied up

And testing fuselage pieces together

and finally a tape up of major parts. I have a bit of adjusting and reinforcing to be going on with as the plastic is very thin compared to other vacs I have built.

  • 2 weeks later...

So back to the Falcon, I have been distracted with C-130 builds for a GB on another forum ( what can I say, I like to spread myself around :D )

Cockpit work started to add the clear section (which is not cut down yet).

The start of assembling the cockpit jigsaw...

Test fitting, still need adjustment

And the nose wheel well doors cut out

Got the instrument panel fitted to the cockpit tub, the combing will have to be cut down to make it fit in the fuselage. I have also cut out the transparent section ready to fit when the fuselage goes together.

The wings got a dose of putty as one had a lot of small depressions on the lower surface mainly.

Then I started to sort out the engines, adding some tube lengths to wall in the intake and exhaust sections, I also created the 'S' duct for the number 2 engine from more tubing.

Finally, I removed the Satcom blister from the tip of the tail as the aircraft I am doing did not have it fitted while I was at the squadron. I don't think it got the mod until after being sold off.

Rooting for you on this one @Romeo Alpha Yankee!  Press on, good sir, because after you finish this, you know that Sova-M or A-Model will....

As for visiting Denver in the middle of summer, I hope you brought the skiis along!  That must've been quite a junket!

I must crack on with this one. I have a C-130 in the final stages of completion which has taken my time lately.

I hope AModel does! ( and a Falcon 7x!)

Yes, it was a good trip, and we got to Breckenridge for a spot of shoosing! And then shot over to Teterboro for some training.
