Got the same kit in my stash.

I've been too-ing and fro-ng about ways to rig the beastie.

Not keen on the Tamiya PE route leaning towards brass rod (0.2mm?)

Any thoughts?

Tom

If you want to use wire but not have to paint it, then don't use brass. The Albion Alloys stuff is nickel-steel and looks quite good unpainted, perhaps dulled down a little with some very thin varnish, 0.2mm would also look okay but maybe 0.3 would also do. Remember your not simulating round wires but aerofil section RAFwire, which is why the PE was invented. The latter though IMO is too wide, or more importantly appears so. Also hard not to bend it when installing it unless you make all the rigging locations a fair bit larger (although that also applies to wire, the locating holes need to follow the exact path of the wire or it will kink as it emerges).

Watching with interest.

A personal favourite as I used to see the FAA Museum example fly over our house in Somerset.

Some folks have struggled with the Tamiya rigging set, but if they're only secured at one end, and left free to slide in the slots at the opposite end they stay straight and look good - IMHO.

I painted my rigging in matt aluminium, which tones them down and helps them look in scale - again, IMHO...

Beware if you are going to do the " B " colour/decal option! In Step 23, you are instructed to glue Parts K3 and K4 together and cement them to the underside of the rear fuselage. DO NOT DO THIS!

There never was any such object fitted there on a real Swordfish. This is a gross interpretation of a photo of a rocket-armed Swordfish with it's wings folded.

The photo:

Thanks for the info.

Planned to do the first scheme "E2"

No.  The reasons include:

ASV radar on the belly

Crews not trained in role

The ships did not include appropriate storage, equipment nor trained personnel

At this time there was no surface threat to worry about.

PS Could a Swordfish loaded with a torpedo even get off the deck of an MAC?

Not quite so. Some of the Swordfish that flew anti-sub patrols off of convoy escort carriers had the older radar fitted that did not use the large fairing under the fuselage. They had a transmitting antenna mounted on the leading edge of the upperwing centre section with receiver antenna mounted on the forward outboard wing struts. They could carry a depth charge or a fuel tank on the torpedo mount, leaving the wings clear to carry smaller depth charges, bombs or rockets.

Looking good!

Can I ask what you're thoughts are on the PE rigging?

Tom

thanks!

At first my dad wasn´t sure about what to use for the rigging. In the end he went for the Tamiya PE parts because I bought them together with the kit some years ago as a present for him.

Basically PE is not a bad idea but it´s hard to get all strings really tensioned. As you can see on the pic above, there´s some slight bending...

For the Walrus my dad most probably will use EZ Line.
