Tim's Heller Mirage F1 - complété

Recommended Posts

Hello there Tim, and welcome!

I have never seen a Heller box from inside, I am very curious about it and looking forward to seeing what you make out of it. Nice to have you here, enjoy your stay aboard Dassault!

Thanks for the welcome Sam.

Here are the parts,  typical Heller - raised detail😞

01-parts.jpg

First page of construction.

02-Instructions1.jpg

Second page of construction deals with the differing forward fuselages.

Then common bits of the markings,

03-Options1.jpg

and more specific unit detail.  But no two seaters shown - hence research.

Construction begins with the cockpit.

One thing I noticed on photos, Huge face-curtain handles on the seats.

And assembling the fuselage.  That fin is dryfitted - and the wrong one.

All two-seaters I've seen have the RWR receiver on the leading edge.

Sad to report, this isn't a great kit.  Very little helping to hold it together.

Hang in there @PlasticSurgeon!

That's not me - but appreciate the sentiment.

Wings fitted, so this is starting to look like an F1.  Nose crammed with lead.

The cockpit is poor.  No bulkhead behind the rear seat, no coaming between the cockpits, and the fit is vague at best.

Good evening Tim

Best of luck  , the Heller kit shows its age ..

Today the best option for a F1B is this kit  https://www.scalemates.com/kits/special-hobby-sh72291-mirage-f1b-be--986506

Best regards

Patrice

It’s probably the only option isn’t it as the last couple of releases of the Heller kit haven’t included the two seat option?

Good afternoon Rob

Yes if you want to build a nice kit the SH F1B  is the best option and Heller  reboxed it last year with different decals

Meanwhile, struggling on with this poor kit:

I've fitted a bulkhead behind the rear seat, and a coaming between the cockpits.   Rear seat installed.

Then attached the canopies.  Fit isn't great - why did I want to do a two-seater?

I've attached the Undercarriage doors for painting.  Another story of gap city.

Masked up ready,

the airbrushed Xtracolor X377 FrenchAF Bleu Mirage F1

It's enjoyed an afternoon in the Winter Sun before I demasked the underside.  Not touching the canopy before tomorrow.

If anybody has a two-seater colour diagram for this scheme, now's the time I need it please.

Tim, the Scalemates link that Patrice put up has a link to the pdf of the kits colour diagrams, one of which is a standard marked machine, if that is what you mean?

Steve.

Ah - penny drops,  thanks.

I'd spotted this one - https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/5/0/6/986506-16-instructions.pdf

but not this one - https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/5/5/2/1382552-91-instructions.pdf

which looks a better kit than the one I've got.  Wish I'd waited for it.  I still haven't got the colour unit marking on the tail though.

However I'm very close with this one using some leftover unit markings from a Mirage 2000.

That’s looking great Tim and although it’s not the best of fitting models, you’re making great progress getting this one over the line and in the GB gallery.

Cheers.. Dave
