This year's new modelkit is a 1/72 scale Desford trainer.

The Reid and Sigrist Desford was a British twin-engined, advanced trainer developed in the Second World Wa. Although the R.S.3 was evaluated as a trainer, the type never entered production and was eventually rebuilt as the R.S.4 Bobsleigh as an experimental aircraft with the pilot in a prone position, seen as advantageous in minimising g-force effects in fighters.

Desford trainer is currently under development and will be rolled out in February. I will shipping outside Japan in March or later.

The Desford was the only subject I ever considered scratch-building, thinking it would never be kitted. I have never heard of katombo Works, but would be willing to risk trying them out for this. In the comments in the FB link, they say it is expected to be around 3000 Yen, so about £20, plus shipping.

I really hope a kit of that is made one day!

Has anyone here built a Katombo kit? They seem to release weird and wonderful subject, but never actually seen a build.

I can't quite be sure from the description whether they are only doing the aircraft in its current R.S.4 form, the version the rendering shows (the experimental prone-piloting configuration), or also in its original rather prettier R.S.3 trainer form - or will they be doing both?

  • Homebee changed the title to 1/72 - Reid and Sigrist R.S.3 Desford resin kit by Akatombo Works - released

Plus one for the early version, can't believe anyone would want to make the later version!
