Smudge
No problem. I enjoyed it myself. I'm a Fleet Air Arm/Naval Aviation 'aholic Yes, those shows must have been quite something. Such a diverse collection of lovely aircraft.
detail is everything
There are colour photos of Scimitars on Google showing blue coloured codes, but of course they are only as accurate as the person who sprayed them up wanted them to be. Still, I assume they will have used the extant scheme as a guide? https://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/scimitar/survivor.php?id=537 and https://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/scimitar/survivor.php?id=
Scimitar F1
Interesting. The codes painted on the Solent Sky airframe are apparently the wrong colour.
detail is everything
This photo from the previously pasted Flicker photo album is difficult to interpret. Sky or pale blue, takes your pick . Most references say pale blue, but that doesn't make them right. Yet to find definitive evidence.
CJP
In Richard A Frank's book Scimitar the colour profiles have 803 squadron with sky nose codes & 807 with pale blue both with black Royal Navy on the spine in 1959 - shame there seem to be so few colour photos of Scimitars from that year. Scimitars appear at about 8 minutes in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q163pVxDUiM Apparently they invented the 'Twizzle'. The 'opposed' landing is a treat! I recall seeing the opposition landing trick done by four aircraft at a Lossiemouth dispaly - can't now remember what aircraft type it was, though I don't think it was Scimitars. Happy days, with a rather different view of risk ! Edited January 25 by John B (Sc)
