I see what you mean. Actually, I think it's mostly the visual effect of the photograph highlighting the contrasting textures/colours. I've given it a squirt of Tamiya white to even out the visuals: Where the nose joins the fuselage the panel line underneath is definitely a bit on the Airfix trench side and a bit wobbly - and that'll need a bit of filling; but there's no major contour mismatch/deficit. The rest is as Airfix intended - which I hope is vaguely Defiant like 24

general melchett
Carried out with your usual meticulousness Steve. great stuff. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the weathering, these things got quite beaten up in service, especially those upper wing roots, what with two of them traipsing over the thing in all their clobber.

I've read that the USAAF gave DR944 to Martin Baker in a right old state, so p'raps subtlety shouldn't be my guide. I need to look for photo's of typical Defiant wear patterns tho'. So the enlarged radiator has had it's bath of filler-primer followed by a right good exfoliation and has gone to play with the rest of the airframe. I've tried to be smart and pre-painted the innards. Just to be difficult one of the boundaries of the yellow/black stripes runs into the front of the radiator, so I've predicted where the line will run. Bound to be wrong..... It took a little fettling but it fitted nicely into position on the lower wing. I used a bead of UV cured resin along the join to get it nice and smooth, and so whilst it looks like there's a small step in the piccies, there isn't one; it's just the thin line of cured grey resin that's visible. Anyways. Sorry for dwelling on this small step in the build for so many posts. But it's been a distraction from a busy week at work. 81-er
That radiator looks great in situ, Steve. Hopefully you have got the demarcation in the right place. Fritag
It had to happen. Roger @Dunny’s riveted his superb Defiant, and it made such a difference that I thought I’d better have a go too. Summat new for me… I have various riveting tools, none of which have ever been used in anger. But I plumped for the Trumpeter: Copied over some rivet lines from my plans: Simplified a bit where it seemed sensible to do so. And in one, not too traumatic session did the two upper outer wing panels: As Roger alluded too on his build, it’s actually not too difficult to do it freehand if you have a line to follow. It’s a start. Neither the most interesting but thankfully nor the most difficult task in modeling. Hopefully it will improve the look. It certainly did for Roger’s Defiant.
