PeteH1969
Very nice you would think it was all Airfix Factory if you didn't know all the work you have put into it. At this rate you will have to look at starting a new project Steve. Pete
hendie
wonderful update Steve. The interior is looking rather spectacular. I'm sure the rhinoplasty will go without issues

Have two thoughts on the go at once? Bit too much like multitasking that, Pete. Practise with a gluteoplasty before attempting the rhinoplasty - as it were... Took it slowly. Used medium gap filling CA on the designed in attachment stubs and then used thin CA applied with the flexifile CA applicator to wick CA all around the edges. After that had dried a bit of light sanding and a bit of light filling using UV cured grey resin followed by micromeshing and we have this: All the joints feel smooth and I painted on some Mr Surfacer and it all micromeshed off again without it finding any cracks or lines in need of filling; but the final test will be how it looks under primer. But subject to that, I reckon it's a successful graft of the TT rear decking onto the fighter fuselage (touch wood). I'm glad I printed the whole of the upper fusleage. I reckon If I'd stuck with plan one and made the join half way along, there would have been a visible 'break' in the diagonal top line. Out of excuses. Rhinoplasty next. Fritag
The village had a coronation party this evening and I can now say that I’ve seen The Beatles Anyway. Before the party I did manage a bit of proboscis pasting. Thus: When I designed it, I was aiming hoping for a fit that would mean I didn’t have to use filler and sand it down and lose the printed detail. Whisper it; but I might just have managed it: Haven’t thought much about the rest of the Defiant; stuff like the wings and undercarriage and what not. Better had, now… 19
81-er
That's looking fantastic, Steve! I reckon you might have got away without the need for filler around the nose too James 1

Fritag
Morning All, So the fuselage has had a test squirt of Tamiya flat white, thinned with Mr Colour levelling thinner, as a primer/check coat and I'm pretty happy with it as there's nothing requiring immediate attention. Which is pretty good when you think about the major surgery done to it. The nose doesn't need any filler, thankfully: Although the panel line behind the engine cowlings (the site of the join) has some of the characteristics of an Airfix 'trench' and I'll probably wick some thinned Mr Surfacer into it to reduce it's prominence a little. It was time to move on to the rest of the kit; starting with the undercarriage bay. The bays are quite simple on the Defiant and there's no need to go to town on them; not least because there's some decent moulded in detail from Airfix. That said, that triangular structure visible at the top of the bay, is somewhat simplified and worth playing with. The work of minutes, rather than hours, to draw and print a bit of structure taken from photos. Haven't worried too much about extreme accuracy - more a representation to add some interest. May be a few cables and the odd lump or two to add from lead wire and plastic stock - but like I said, I'm not going to go to town on it. Interesting to those of us who haven't compared them, but the bays in the 1:48 version seem to have no more detail than in the 1:72 one that I've nearly completed. Did they just scale their drawings from to the other? The fuselage looks superb, Steve. Loving this thread as a distraction from my amateurish efforts elsewhere. cheers Rob Edited May 10 by Zephyr91 speeling correction 1

Far better than a roughly-alike job kiddo.
