ICM 1/24 1886 Benz Motorwagen

Recommended Posts

@Bengalensis did one of these back in 2020 and did a fantastic job of it - linked here. This is my effort, which was inspired by Jorgen's build even though it falls short of his superb model. It is built straight from the box with the photo-etched wheel spokes which are part of this boxing. I also opted to create my own 'drive belt' using painted masking tape rather than use the moulded multi-part option. This one is modelled after the replica on display at the Haynes Motor Museum near Yeovil, so the colours differ from the original in the Mercedes Museum.

The metallics are Mr Color Super Metallic 2 Copper and Super Metallic Brass, with Humbrol 'steel' and Vallejo Metal Colors also used. The 'wood' is done with oils over an acrylic base, with a coat of Tamiya Clear Orange added once the oils were dry. The photos were taken in rather poor natural light which hasn't brought out the 'brightness' of the metallics.

Finally, a photo from phone with the Revell 1/24 Land Rover as a size comparison.

That looks like a very nice build. You've also reminded me about this one and put it right back on my radar as a candidate for when I next buy a new kit (not going to allow myself to do that until I finish the current build).

That looks lovely, Dave... or at least as lovely as an ungainly marriage of a park bench, a donkey engine and a brace of Penny-Farthings can look! Great metallics as ever and beautiful detail painting and finishes all round. Seeing it next to the Landy, I'm actually surprised how BIG it is...

best,

M.

Great to see something unusual. The size comparison shot against the Land Rover is interesting.

They've got a full size replica in the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin, which is incidentally rammed full of cool stuff and an absolute megabargain way of spending a few hours.
