Eduard F4F-3 Wildcat 1/48

Recommended Posts

Here is my recently completed build of Eduards new tooled F4F-3 Wildcat. The kit itself went together a dream and the only filler required was to clean the seem up along the spine of the aircraft. I painted the aircraft in AK RC and weathered with a mixture of oils and enamel products from Mig and AK.

Love the faded blue, but I'm not a fan of the heavy panel line/rivet shading.  But, that is a personal preference.  How you have done it is more than well done if that is the look you are going for.  The kit looks great and is a wonderful representation of a weathered Wildcat.  Thanks for sharing.

I like that a lot. The overall effect is really nice. I'm not a proponent of models looking historically accurate (again a personal choice - I can't be bothered to do the research, I prefer to get on with my building), so I like that you've brought a lot of life to the usually plain US navy ww2 schemes.

Spot on it looks superb, the weathering on the top of the wings is very clever

Looks great! Did you preshade the panels on the wings?

Yeah I preshaded the whole aircraft but I added some browns and sand yellows to the top side of the wing where you would expect heavy foot-traffic. Then obviously to lift this effect further I used oils.

Are those the notorious Eduard decals or aftermarket or printed markings or what?

If they are the kit decals then might I ask how they performed?

Sorry for the late reply. They are all Eduard decals what came with the kit, they are the "new style" Eduard decals with the peelable film and they really were great, I used micro-set and sol and then left the decal to sit for 24hrs and then peeled the top layer off and you get an amazing finish, some of the smaller decals I decided to see what it would look like if I didn't peel and compare the results, and when all is said and done with the oils and flat coats its very very difficult to spot the difference if any at all.
