Rearview mirrors were present *ONLY* on British and American fighters... why?

So, only British and US?

Other types like the Fw 190 or many Yakovlev or Lavochkin fighters basically had full vision canopy so maybe it was not considered necessary by the pilots (these were mostly field modifications). Furthermore, considering that such a mirror was subject to vibration, it begs the question of how useful they really were.

Maybe the fact that in most cases these mirrors were field modifications on individual aircraft and not implemented in large scale by the manufacturers already provides that answer.

Cheers

And not always mounted where you'd expect it to be.

This is an early fabric-wing Hurricane:

Or on an unexpected aircraft. This is a Lysander of 400 Squadron RCAF soon after their arrival in Britain, in 1940. ( Photo from @Carl V ).

Individualistic non-official approach for sure :)))
