Race Retro auction

I find it useful to check out classic car auction websites to get research info when building my kits . Have a 5 minutes and have a look at the mouth watering selection at this forthcoming sale . There's cars on here that are or have been featured on the BM forum. This link is just the beginning  ....

Gary .

Isn't that lovely!

Found this last night too when looking for pics of Lancers on the Monte Carlo. Lots of detail pics again but nor sure how original it is - e.g. the seats look a bit modern to me.

I think the roll cage looks like it's had more bars added too . Nice car though.

Lancer is nice replica As they say in text: tribute to the Mitsubishi Lancer WRC chassis #51, which secured overall victory in the 1999 Rallye Monte Carlo in the hands of Tommi Mäkinen.

So I wouldn't use these photos as a reference for real Monte car.

That's just ridiculous!! I test drove one when they were brand new, IIRC it was around £7K on the road as the dealer couldn't shift it as I think most potential buyers, myself included, couldn't afford the insurance!! Flippin' exciting car to drive though - bet that one won't ever be seen out on the road again!

I know this is still a stupid buy it now price, especially for a Mk2 Escort (!) but with its provenance I'm surprised it didn't actually sell. If I had the ridiculous amount of money to waste that the person that bought the jellymould has, I know which one I'd heve gone for!

Well, with 30 more years of McRaes various using it, and then a full rebuild,  there probably isn't much left there of the car Colin drove!

It's that special Ford Tax I've mentioned before !

Gary

You're probably right with that Gary. This little lovely only has 3000 miles more on it and went for 'only' £21K - I could almost afford that!

I'd love to have had half a million quid plus spare to buy that Sierra though. I'd strip out the carpets and headlining, stick a cage, harnesses and proper seats in and go production car class hillclimbing in it....!!! 🤣

Interesting insight from the description of the McRae Escort:  "In those days there were no pace notes and co-drivers would read off a 1.25 scale map."

If only we had such highly detailed maps these days, but they must have taken some folding to fit on a map board.  😜

The Sierra was a stupid price however, and I can't imagine what was going on there. Cue every chancer now bunging a couple of zeros on their expectations.

I think now we need to say someone loves mother and other daughter in this case. Ok I wouldn't pay that sum for RS500.

The thing to remember is that because this is an auction it's not just one person willing to pay over half a million for a Sierra but two as someone else would have to help bump the price up!
