Jbourne124
This one begins with a few other kits given to me by my wife's grandfather. He had asked me originally to build him a 1940 Ford 5 window coupe, and for his wife a 68 corvette. We had gone over for a family gathering one day, and he brought out the packard for me to “take a look”. I looked over the ancient looking box and it’s contents, then looked at him and asked him what color? He said do with it what you want. So now here I am building a box stock 1930 packard with no idea what color combo to go with. I’m not privy to the coral and brown combo so I’m going to think on a more classy color setup. Anyhow I want to bring you all along if you’ll excuse my long winded write ups. I will post pics later today. Jbourne124
So overall this will be box stock with no modifications, but some extra detail will be added. and like many other stories this one starts with the engine. The instructions in this kit are very clear, and the parts have little to no flash. I’m painting with tamiya paints, brushes, you name it. I find that tamiyas quality is pretty good so far, the engine is green, and flat silver.
Vesa Jussila
I remember this kit. I got that for Christmas as a child and it was too complex then. I maybe was 9 years. Never saw it again.
Jbourne124
@Vesa Jussila there are a few up on the bay if your interested in revisiting the subject, I’m tempted to buy my self one due to the over all crisp/clean execution of the kit. this is however my first attempt at anything in the 1930s era

Jbourne124
Man I had one heck of a time wiring up the straight 8 but I’m glad I persevered! Here she is after some more detail was added. I’m going to work on a more permanent photo booth set-up, this is just two pieces of evergreen 0.20” inside of a box Edited January 15 by Jbourne124 Mispelling

Neddy
Excellent start, especially the ignition wiring. Very neat job.
Michael Church
I built most of these Monogram 1920s to 1940s car kits when I was a kid in the 1970s. I'm sure they turned out very badly, but it's great to see the parts and instructions again. Thanks for posting your build!
Vesa Jussila
I also needed to look what Monogram made for this series. Maybe I need to start to look Cord, Lincoln and Mercedes.

Jbourne124
Thank you @NeddyI couldn’t come up with any plug wire ends due to lack of materials, and I was wondering if anyone has ever made bolt on style plug leads before, if so what did you use? Jbourne124
Sorry for the long pause I couldn’t find time to work on anything. Tonight I’m working on the firewall piece as it is formed in a way that leaves a very obvious lip hanging out between the body and engine lid
Jbourne124
Much better next things on the list will be a mist coat of primer and some filling work to make sure all the “modifications” look smooth
Noel Smith
Coming on well this Packard! Monogram did a nice range of 1/24th scale classics back in the 60's and 70's.
Jbourne124
@Noel Smith thank you, this is going to be a gift for my like minded car nut grandfather so I’m trying to put in as much effort as I can
Jbourne124
The weather has been pretty bad here in Oregon, I will resume progress once I can get some spraying in! Thank you for anyone following along.
Spiny
Winter weather is always a good way to put a brake on modelling if you need to spray. I can definitely recommend building up a stock of enough sprayed bodies over summer to tide you through the rubbish weather months. Are there any dash/interior parts you can get on with while waiting for the sun or does this kit not build up like that?
Jbourne124
Oh that’s a good point, I’ll have to do that this year, I’ll try and work in some dash work tonight @spiny I’ve had a hard time trying to figure out what colors to do the interior because I’m going for a very elegant combination of colors, this isn’t one of my personal cars or else it’s be just black
