Actually should be I lost my heart, not love.  But I can find a John Denver version on You tube, and there are references to other artists recording it.

Pretty little red Corvette by Prince would be a shoe in. Use up the contents of the car spares box with Johny Cash, one piece at a time. Little Deuce Coupe, Fun Fun Fun, and 409 brings in the Beach Boys. Deadmans Curve, Little Old Lady from Passedena and Bucket T add Jan and Dean to the list.

The Italian Job opens up a ton of choices. Three Minis in a drainpipe would look good. Ditto same charging down a flight of stone steps.

Caddilac, Caddilac, long and dark, shiney and black from The Boss. A Hot Steppin' Hemi with a four on the floor (She's a Road Runner engine in a '32 Ford) or a '69 Chevy with a 396 by him would be nice as well.

Help!

I think he was using a Corvette as a metaphor for riding something else pretty & red 😅

Well if we're thinking songs (beyond the Motorhead Bomber that I was planning to do), we've also got these by Saxon:

  • 747 Strangers in the Night (Scandinavian Airways Flight 101)
  • Motorcycle Man (type of bike not specified)
  • Princess of the Night (all about an LMS Princess Royal Class loco - I'm sure the railway modellers must have something - if not there's alwsy the Combrig 1/700 HMS Princess Royal 😁)
  • Dallas 1PM (Kennedy's Lincoln Continental from the old AMT kit)

or there's Rush's Red Barchetta (which Scalemates suggests offers 40 different options!)

This could get silly!

@Mjwomack Sign me up for this GB. I have two kits that I would like to build, both on the same theme:

I am halfway through the box-set of M*A*S*H and have been collecting associated bits and bobs for a project which has yet to get off the ground, so to speak.

Surely the motorbike has to be Steve Mcqeen's from The Great Escape? Must be the most famous motorbike in cinema history!

Or George Formby’s motorbike from No Limit (which also featured my grandmother as an extra)

So sorry, I'd omitted you from the list of sponsoring angels, and that was before attention turned to metaphorical interpretation of Prince songs! Added now

I've never ev en see these, the models of course I've seen the TV series and most of the film (long story involving a power cut). Moving my attention away from the Loretta Swit model, does the jeep have stretcher? Once @trickyrich comes across this he'll be pressing you to put the helicopter in the Go Large or Go Home GB- but be strong!

I'm sure that nowadays you can commission a 3D print of her for that personal touch.

I hope so! The strap line for this Gb may yet degenerate/ evolve into 'Build 'em all- all the world's a stage'

I've noticed that the Salty Sea Dog GB is a very cultured place with lots of people referencing books and films. Sooo- how about a GB where the subject was featured in such a thing.

It could be somebody's memoirs or a historical account or a work of fiction. Even a song.

So, if you want a Spitfire it has to be reference in a book or film etc. ie there's a still from Battle of Britain for it, equal not quite whif but a yellow submarine or an Alien are fine. As are Wallace and Grommit.

As with the Queens Jubilee/ in memoriam build the thing is to have a link, even a photo of a book cover to demonstrate the connection.

And don't let me stop anyone from making ptasicine taxis and cellophane flowers if they want too!

And of course, lots of James Bond!

Recently re watched the 1936 film 'Things To Come'. In many respects it has not worn well, but aside from the futuristic 'Wings over the World' aircraft, it has an Avro 504 being worked on and flown, the Hawker Fury G-ABSE representing the might of the 1940 RAF, and several shots of what I think is a Vickers infantry tank. A somewhat mangled copy is on YouTube and a badly colourised version is on Roku TV. Apparently there is no known copy of the original film as shown in British cinemas in 1936, most of versions around are of a much shorter US version or a post war edit.

Hi,

I have an Ebbro Lotus 1967 that I need an excuse for. It's been referenced in many a book / documentary; so would it fit this GB?

Cheers

You know I want to say yes! As we're all mature self-controlled people on here, I'll let you be the judge of it.

The principal I have in mind for the GB is that the 'original' has a significant amount of the documentary/ book devoted to it. I'm guessing that as he Lotus is in both, then it's a key player and so would qualify.

What I don't think counts is, suppose the documentary is really about Mcclaren but hey looks there's a clip of it overtaking the Lotus. And there it is again in a blurry photo in the book.

Does this help? Obviously as I've now moved to just across the fields from the Lotus test-track, one of the designers lives in the village and they've a big showroom nearby I want to say yes!! But hopefully you can see the spirit of what I have in mind.

Oh well. It was worth an ask

I’ve a 1:400 Titanic but that’s past the 25% rule and heading for the KUTA GB. I’ve started a a new ‘Track Day GB’ thread so maybe that will fly.

Cheers

That would be a lot of fun in so many ways. Will it include scale jug of vodka and orange?

Never any harm in asking, and thanks for further strengthening my belief that BMers are the most mature part of the t'internet, and good at self-regulating.

Of course there's the 1952 Vincent Black Lightning from Richards Thompson's  song.

"Red hair and black leather, my favourite colour scheme."

And given the general age and cultural history of this forum, I am very, very surprised  (and not a little disappointed!) that no-one's nominated for KAR 120C.

Won't be me, I don't do GBs, but have at it, lads!

Where do radio shows fit in this especially where you have to use your imagination? I have the booklet of a WW2 era radio broadcast called "Junction X" which contains some great scenes but never identifies them. In the same way The Archers have mentioned local stations over the years but we have no detail of what they look like or what trains operate to them.

That is such as good question, I wish I'd thought of it myself! My first answer was, 'no idea' but fortunately the current issue of the N Gauge Society has a layout based on Trowbridge from The Archers. So I suppose radio shows would be a whatif for this GB, as in What If it was made into a film or a television series. And you, dear modeller are the creative director.

At this point, I fall upon my usual line about BM being the most mature part of the internet, so plausibility isn't going to give way to fantasy. Personally I thought the Trowbridge layout was too built up to be a rural setting in a shire county. That to my mind would be the guiding principle- plausibility!

So to take the Junction X example, don't equip them with mobile phones
