Eastwood's other war flick "Where Eagles Dare," JU 52 <snip>.

"Broadsword calling Danny Boy!" - "Broadsword calling Danny Boy!". . .

I've got this Ju-52 kit,

Italeri_Ju52-Minesweeper.jpg

and Where Eagles Dare * DVD for reference.

Where-Eagles-Dare.jpg

If you're happy for me to homebrew* markings from my spares box,  and cover that mid-upper gun position -

then add me to the list.

* For a movie adaptation of a post war book, using an airliner conversion of a wartime transport that was repainted with typical but non-authentic markings.

** See this Revell Stearman for quotes and plot spoilers when I'm enjoying myself, building a model film star.

Start the extraction plan - I've removed the firing pin from Col Turner's gun, and jumped out of the cable car into a freezing canal.

Of course! A 'classic of the genre'. And I think home made decals would add to the whole movies set feel- who says you can't improve on an original.

Added to the list, just need Arts Council funding to come through!!!

Well, this covers a lot of bases…

…or does it need to be more specific? 😁

I've got a kit that qualifies or this. He's been in well over 30 films since his debut in 1954 (so 2024 will be his 70th anniversary) and Blue Oyster Cult wrote a song about him.

Ohh we've started playing charades already! My first question, can I put you on the list.

Films and a song? Tarzan? Biggles? Guess they've be scratch builds!

“Books, film or song”?

I like the idea -  FWIW, my club did a theme similar to this several years ago for our annual theme build, and it went over really well. We did “As seen on TV” —   subjects from TV or movies.

Some thoughts/questions:

When you say “Books”,  am I correct in thinking that “fiction” is implied?   Allowing non-fiction books seems to make the category too broad- a subject from a reference book doesn’t feel like it meets the spirit of the theme.

And “Movies” -   a similar thought applies here.  I would think that it is fiction only - not documentaries.   But I think that historical fiction or “inspired by real events” would apply.

And are subjects from TV shows eligible?   (The title seems to exclude them.)

No matter what the answers, I do like the idea!

All good questions, encouraged to hear your club did one a few years back- as has been said a previous attempt to make the bunfight didn't make it to the theatres!

Certainly something from a reference book is outside the spirit of it- a bit like that badly reproduced photo in an ancient magazine. But I don't think I'd rule out all non-fiction, if it was a central part of someone's memoirs I'd let in in for example

TV shows would certainly be included - I just couldn't figure out a title that didn't go on for ever. Yes spot on about the movies element -that's very much what I'd see going on. Really I want lots of M3 half-tracks with great big black crosses on the side to make them 'German', or Steve McQueen's bike would be a treat!!

As I said, we had great participation, lots of options for the historical and sci-fi fans in the club!    And I did your classic M3 Halftrack in German markings!

I did the “Rat Patrol” * in 1/72- two jeeps vs. a pair of M3s in Afrika Korps colors.

I am definitely in on this one!!

* Rat Patrol:   An American WW2-themed TV show from the late ‘60s. Three Yanks and a Brit in a pair of Jeeps with pedestal .50 cals, causing havoc behind German lines in North Africa.  Don’t know if it ever aired in the UK…?

It did. I remember watching several episodes over fifty years ago! Memory says that they always came out on top, despite overwhelming odds.

Wiki says there were 58 episodes that aired on ABC between '66 & '68 So maybe 1969 over here? I'd have been 15!

Oh yes- count me in for this one! I've been wanting to build the A-4N seen at the start of the film 'The Sum of All Fears' for a while now.

I built an Israeli Scooter a couple months ago and someone mentioned it reminded them of the film opening and since then the idea has stuck in my head (plus I'd get to finally build an accurate A-4N probably using the Hasegawa A-4M as a base).

Surely that's a pre-requisite for the plot outline?

Yes! And welcome to the script read through!

I've decided this is read-through and rehersals

The bun-fight will be public screening

And onto the GB calendar would definitely be awards night!!!

Dang, I forgot what I had in mind. I recall there were 2: first was AM's 1/48 B-25B with 'Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo'. I ruled that out due to the GB time limit and my building speed. Second? No clue. I read my post for a clue, but I didn't provide any breadcrumbs. This annoys me as I'm very well aware that I suffer from CRS (Can't remember, stuff).

I don't have a Halifix C Mk. VIII kit and probably won't get one; however, I was watching the film Stop Press Girl (1949) on Talking Pictures and saw a civil registered Halifax on there. The aircraft can be seen at 48:29 on the film.  The reg. was G-AKEC and belonged to Lancashire Aircraft Corporation.

I thought that it my be an interesting build, for someone looking for inspiration on what to enter the GB with.

cheers,

Mike

On point 1, I guess that goes in the 'Epics category'!

On point number 2, it's going in the 'Mystery section' and I'm adding you to the list on the basis that you won't remember if you meant it or not😃

Lots of people mention some very good films and other things coming up on this channel- I guess they're talking about it! Certainly I should sort my life out and try it sometime

It's a very useful channel for modellers, and people of a certain age, with loads of detail being shown of vehicles, aircraft, trains and even ships etc.    It can become a bit addictive though.

SWMBO asks,  "does anyone else take a notebook and pen to watch a film?" .

Maybe someone out there has one of these in their stash. I was tempted to buy this one from an eBay seller, but his price was outrageous. I think he priced it to keep...

I've got a Tamiya 1/32 Tomcat and the HAD decal sheet to build an F-14 from the film.

I  could also go with one of Max Rockatansky's Falcons having a resin kit to do his Interceptor as well as either version of the Pursuit Special.

I should'a popped on that kit when I had the chance. Apparently those kits are incredibly scarce now...
