FrancisGL Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) Hi Pals, Again taking up the hobby, this time I have opted for something a priori simple. It is about the JAGDTIGER Early from TAKOM, from their "Blitz" range, which seems to be somewhat simplified compared to other kits, but I see that it is a very complete kit (without interiors), with many small details and some beautiful moulds. It also includes a jig for the tracks, which I think will make my always tedious work easier... In principle, I hope it is OOB, perhaps add an antenna, and some handle that due to position/fragility is a candidate for breakage in the handling process... Soon I will be adding progress. Thanks for the interest. Cheers and TC Francis,👍 Edited February 13, 2023 by FrancisGL 9

FrancisGL Posted January 14, 2023 Author Posted January 14, 2023 UPDATE 01: Hi Pals, The first progress with the kit, and the part that I like the least, the running gear and the tracks. Having a jig to align and make the corresponding saggy has been helpful, along with the fact that the tracks are large, it is easier to manipulate and is appreciated, because when it comes to taking the links, there is no major problem , compared to those of a PzIV, it is already easy to see the difference... Once filed where they have been cut from the sprue, the fit is very good and the work is methodical but productive. It is necessary to be careful with the choice of links, as it is easy to confuse the correct side with the opposite, so it is advisable to pay close attention to the drawing of the link. I have decided to fix the tracks in their place, because I don't like to be constantly putting them on and taking them off, to see if they are adjusted or if something needs to be changed, because in the end, they end up unsticking somewhere... The size is a big help, and I know I can paint them properly, with some patience, skill, and the right brush for the job. As a positive, the parts that will inevitably not be seen (since they are glued), do not have to be cleaned/scraped afterwards to glue them, or mask in some way so that the grip is necessary later, or paint them, since not being seen is work lost.... The trick is to review well from all visible angles, and paint where necessary, if it is not seen from any angle, it is not possible to paint... Thanks for watching and comment. Cheers and TC Francis.👍 15

There should be fit problems with the front armor ?, so I will test this year the Tamiya kit of the early version. For this I have pre-ordered T-Rex tracks 😁 All the best! MD 1
Muchmirth Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Liking this already! Good luck and I will follow along. best regards, Paul 1

MD Hi MD, Many thanks for your kind words and interest, It is possible that yes, because the fit of the pieces is very "tight"... with little margin of tolerance, even sometimes without glue, it is difficult to separate the pieces... Fortunately, being a tank destroyer, and not a tank, it does not have a turret, and the superstructure is a single large piece, so that by simplifying the work, angle adjustment problems are also reduced, which could not be well resolved. in TAKOM's mold (his M3 Lee, which I did just before this one, and I did have problems aligning all the angles, which are also asymmetrical.) The tracks have not been very difficult for me, I just clean the cut-off points, and put in their place (includes jig), other much smaller ones if they are a headache...also this kit had a super-affordable price when I bought it first hand, I seem to remember that I did it for around €28... Cheers and TC Francis.👍

FrancisGL Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 UPDATE 2: Hi Pals, Some progress with the kit. There have been no major problems with the assembly, if it is true that the adjustment of the rear plate when the superstructure is in place, makes it somewhat difficult to adjust, since it has very little margin, so you have to deal with some strength so that everything remains as it should. The good thing is that once in place, it looks great. The barrel has some movement, with an ingenious system, but in practice, it is not very useful, also, it has a strange alignment, so it will be fixed... I have been putting all the pieces that I think will not break during assembly and handling, even so some have already broken... at least I have recovered the broken part to glue it again later... I finished the PEs, which are not difficult (thank goodness), and the front machine gun, I changed it for a metal one, which I had spare parts... I have replaced some handles with wire, because I know that in the end they will end up broken or lost. As you can see in the photos, the kit has very good details, such as the butterfly clamps for the rear equipment, without the need for PEs... and the roughness of the "Pig's Snout", and the support of the exhausts, a "jack" quite detailed, the wooden block with its good wooden detail and the handle, a little rifled at the tip of the barrel (I don't think you can see it), the rear doors are functional, although very delicate, so it is not convenient to touch them often...in short, for a "simplified" kit (BLITZ), it offers a very good level of detail without having to spend on extras if you don't want it, with a very competitive price, for example compared to TAMIYA. I have not yet fixed the superstructure or the gun to the lower part of the hull, that way all subsequent processes will be easier. Until the next update, Thanks for watching and commenting.👍 14
