Airfix 1/72 McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1 - Finished

The underside was masked up last night and today the topside got  couple of misty coats of Colourcoats EDSG, followed by some highlights with a drop of Sky Grey mixed with the EDSG.

Finally the Sky Grey/EDSG mixed was thinned to about 80/20 thinner/paint and two misted coats were sprayed over to blend everything in and fade down a little.

I'll unmask tomorrow and if all is good then I'll mask up for the nose and the metallics on the tail and the intakes.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

There were a few touch ups needed.

They were done and the nose masked off for some Semi-Gloss Black.

I've just noticed a white touch up that's needed.

That will be done tomorrow and if I get time I'll get the rear masked up for some metallics.

Thanks for looking,

Alistair

Not much of an update, but.....

I got on with the masking for the rear end metallics and gave it a spritz of Tamiya Lacquer Gloss Black.

That will need to gas off for a couple of days and then I can get the Xtreme metals on.

I really should get on with the weapons loads, undercarriage and horizontal stabilisers while I'm at it.

Thanks for looking,

I usually try make a start early on in the build when the enthusiasm levels for such work are at their highest!

Looking forward to seeing this done!

I always start out meaning to get the pylons and weapon loads done early but it doesn't happen as often as it should.

Thanks Chris,

Just a few wee bits to do and it will be sticker time. :worry:

I did some work on the rear metallics today.

Starting with a coat of Xtreme Metals Steel and then bits picked out with Alclad Duraluminium and Dark Aluminium.

This was followed by some coats of Alclad Pale Burnt Metal, Xtreme Metals Burnt Metal and Jet Exhaust.

Leaving this.

A wee update,

Some Nato Black, Flat Aluminium and a Yellow/Buff mix for the RWR applied

Apart from a bit of EDSG that needs sorted on the wing tips she's ready for a clear coat and some stickers at last.

The wingtip EDSG was sorted and while I was at it painted in the Nato Black patches for the overpainted Royal.

The photos I've seen of this show it wasn't a regular rectangle so I tore up some Masking tape and put the torn edges towards the inside.

I had cut the Royal Navy decal from the kit sheet to get them in what I hope is the right place.

Once this had dried I got a clear coat laid down in the hope that I can start some stickers tomorrow.

Once everything has settled in I'll need to overpaint the underside serials as that was done on the real thing.

I'll use a slightly different shade of white and brush on to simulate the "vandalism" on the real one.

Then it will be time to start the stencilling. :worry:

While I was at it I got some metallic paints on the cans and arrestor hook.

Nice touch using the torn marking tape for the black brush-painted patch :speak_cool:

Thanks Col.

I looked at the pictures I've got and thought it would be better that way.

I've just got to hand brush the underwing serials and then I can get on with the stencils.

Mind you the pressure is off a bit as I thought the finishing date was the end of March and not April. :phew:

Cheers,

Alistair
