Reini78
#1/2023 New year, new count.... Here´s my dad´s first finished model in 2023. Academy edition of the old Hobbycraft kit, markings from Hi-Decal. Had some True Details (Squadron) T-33 resin seats in our stash. Although they are a bit too low for this kit my dad used them because they have nice molded-on seatbelts. Also added a pitot tube (got a bit too large) from the sparesbox and a plastic rod (got a bit too short) for the fuel drain tube on the rear. No more details added. Painted with Gunze H314 FS35622, Gunze H309 FS34079 and AK Real Color Interior Yellow-Green with some drops of yellow and white. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235117728-bay-of-pigs148-lockheed-t-33a-fuerza-aérea-revolucionaria/ After a bunch of Cuban aircraft were destroyed by airstrikes and an invasion became imminent, the FAR added additional field camo to (some of) their remaining aircraft for better ground coverage, each looked different. If the info is true, "703" was one of only three operational T-33. It was credited with the downing of two B-26 Invaders (FAL927 and 935) on April 17th 1961. Diego
Hello Reini, The T-33 is a real eyecatcher....as always.😍 I am happy to see you decided to continue with the Cuban /Latin American theme! The "family photo" with the Sea Fury is simply a delight! The first bombing attacks by the FAL ( Fuerza Aérea de Liberación - as the air component of the Brigada 2506 has been called) destroyed a.o. the T-33 on alert at San Antonio. Therefore the remaining FAR T-Birds have been hastly camouflaged during the night preceeding the invasion. In fact, "703" was not operational, but was quickly repaired and so 3 T-birds could be launched against the invading forces, destroying several B-26s as well damaging several ships of the Brigada 2506 "703" had a very intensive, but short career, shooting down two Invaders on April 17th, but, being heavily damaged already on April 18th during an attack against the ships of the invaders, this T-33 was grounded and never flew again. After the victory at Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs), all the remaining aircraft of English and US origin were retired and quickly replaced by the first MiG-15bis. Interestingly, 703 is the only one of the FAR T-33 with pictures showing the highly attractive operational camo scheme used during the combats at Playa Girón, There is also 711 that have beeen photographed some month later ( with Soviet pilots posing on the photos ) with a similar, but more "striped" scheme, but as it was already exposed as a monument, it it possible tha this T-33 has been repainted after retirement.
