I am glad you didn't say touching wood at the end there 😄😉 Sorry, I'll get my:coat:

Great progress Roger,  the cockpit looks great and good to see the fuselage buttoned up too, this is progressing very well.

Cracking work

Chris

Thanks very much Chris. I feel like I learned much from the Skua which is directly informing progress here,

Cheers,

Roger

You’re ROCketing ahead with this Roger!

As I said Craig, the pun options are virtually endless - good to see you pushing the envelope 🤣

Looking good Roger,

Nice tip with the masking tape rudder pedal straps.

Filed away for future use.

Or touching cloth but that may just be me when I'm putting bits together.

Alistair

Thanks Alistair - it was not really an option as the PE misbehaved, but it does the job!

Cheers,

Hi All,

A bit of a leap forward on the Roc. I foolishly deleted some photos and cannot retrieve them, but in summary the missing activities are:

- Replicated the work on the starboard wing

- Assembled the cowling and exhaust, and painted the exhaust and collector.

- Added reinforcing tabs to the wing roots

- Assembled the rear stabilisers

The one photo I did not delete in this whole process was the exhaust, which was carefully drilled and carved out to remove the flat face provided. Here's 'after':

So here we are at the start of play today, with the glazing in position:

What's that? One with the turret glazing in place? No problem:

Starting to look like a Roc! There was much filling & sanding around the wing joins, along with general tidying up. I then rescribed this morning, and finished the job of masking. I then laid down a coat of Interior Grey Green over the prominent glazing:

Here's the first coat of primer complete:

Actually not too much to clean up, other than a seam on the rear stabiliser which I shall see to now. I shall then get on to preshading,

Thanks for looking,

Roger

This is amazing progress, ok, I've just squashed a week into 20 minutes but this sort of work would take me a month in 1/72 & you're half way done already. Hoping that some of this is applicable to my baby scale one. 🤞

Steve.

Thanks Steve - I'm sure the kit will share similar foibles which are mainly down to wing construction

Thanks very much Chris - the Skua has certainly informed my approach this time!

My Fulmar on the other hand is still awaiting a gun Bay and wing framing....

Thanks GB - Sunday it is 🤣

Hi All,

Roccing on yesterday and today (for those who've been hidden under a Roc 🤣). Once I'd tidied up the defects shown up by the first primer coat, I laid down a second coat and then set about pre-shading with Nato Black:

I then proceeded with mist coats of Sky Grey until the preshading had faded to my satisfaction:

You can see on the fuselage where I've scribed an escape hatch for the gunner. Unlike the Defiant, the Roc's gunner did not wear a 'Rhino' suit with integral parachute, instead having to clip on his parachute stored down below, before egress through the ventral hatch. Suffice to say, said hatch is not apparent on the mouldings so I put it directly below the turret. You can also see where the scribed lines have been reapplied over excessive sanding - I'm sure that'll sort itself out after a Flory wash. Anyway, I then masked up for the camouflage:

DSG mist coats were then applied. Here's early in the piece:

And here after a lightened coat (with a couple of drops of Mid-Stone):

Camo masks applied using the tried and tested method:

And here after the EDSG had been applied, lightened (with Sky Grey), and unmasked:

That's not looking too bad! I'll be working on the markings this afternoon so depending on progress I may update again later,

Thanks for looking,

Roger

A little bit of classic understatement there.

Looking splendid.

You're fairly cracking on with this.

Cheers,

Alistair

Thank you Alistair - there are some upsides to gardening leave!

Thanks Chris. The ugly duckling becomes... a slightly less ugly duck?!

Very slightly less. The Roc manages the rare feat of making the Defiant look like a sleek beauty. Wonder if it looks any better with the rear fairing lowered? (Checks Google) Nope. But you are managing to make it look just about as good as it can Roger.

Ha - I do admire your sense of optimism Craig! 'How about if we rolled it in glitter?'

Yeah - "Starting to look like a Roc" isn't necessarily a good thing. But nothing can look bad in TSS!

Well said indeed TBJ!

That's looking a bit good Roger, in a very well modelled kind of way, if not a handsome machine sort of way. Nice going. :)

Steve.

Cheers Steve - I am rather learning to like the ugly brute!
