Rafwaffe
Here is the Plastic for my build, a (Sea) Hurricane IA of the MSFU. Markings are undecided at the moment as I am still trying to match a serial to a code and individual letter for one of the operational launches. TonyOD
Excellent subject and a welcome addition. I'm not sure if technically speaking this was a Sea Hurricane or just a Hurricane at sea, given that it hadn't been adapted for carrier use with a hook etc., but either way it's salty to the core. Graham Boak
It is technically speaking a Sea Hurricane Mk.IA. It has been adapted for naval use by the additional of catapult (strictly accelerator) spools. The Sea Hurricane Mk.IB had both spools and arrester hook, for use on the Fleet carriers. I did see a much later BAe document which said that the Sea Hurricane Mk.IC had arrester hook but no spools for use on escort carriers, but I've not seen this anywhere else and the arrival of the escort carriers was somewhat later. The use of the suffix is independent of the RAF use for distinguishing between armaments. It might be interesting to determine whether this was a later plan, not adopted, and whether the Sea Hurricane Mk.IIC had the spools or not.
Col.
Regardless of the Sea suffix or not it's always good to see a Hurricane and this kit looks to be a great one 1
Rafwaffe
So I need a headrest and catapult spools to do this Hurricat properly. Simplest path will be to backdate a Sea Hurricane IB to a IA. Fortunately I happen to have the new Arma Hobby one in the stash which will now become a Sea Hurricane IA. Updates to follow. I’m not sunk yet! Disappointed though I can’t find a 1/72 cradle with or without the rails anywhere… Edited January 11, 2023 by Rafwaffe
Bertie McBoatface
The great thing about CAM ship Hurricanes is the opportunity for heavy weathering. Yummy! And what splendid box art. I'd happily display the original over the fireplace if I had the chance, and a fireplace.
Rafwaffe
New plastic! Same aircraft, different version of base kit to be backdated to a Sea Hurricane IA (+ Headrest and catapult spools and - arrestor hook). Spray undercoat done, 🤞 I’ll get the chance to do some painting and assembly once the family are asleep. At this stage I’ve tentatively settled on V7070 as my aircraft based on a couple of photos of the aircraft and a very good article about the pilot from the key.aero website.
TonyOD
Arma Hobby seem to be doing fantastic things in 1/72. I'm looking forward to this one and how you tackle the catapult thingy.

I will have to settle for the aircraft only this time (on its wheels) for the GB if I cannot find a 1/72 cradle with or without the catapult and rails. The seed has been planted though. I will probably revisit the cradle/catapult once I have more free time in the future to do some scratch building.
Bertie McBoatface
Have a look in the recent ready for inspections. There's a 148th scale version which is very nice
Rafwaffe
Not a lot, but finally started and paint has been applied to plastic (and resin)!

Rafwaffe
Some progress today. plastic, resin and etch glued with harness wrestled into position (someone really needs to make resin hurricane seats with a harness on it!) I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve broken and re glued the (quick boost) joystick back on! Next I think I’ll join the fuselage halves. Holding off on building the wings/undercarriage as long as possible as I try to get a cam ship cradle 3D printed. Bertie McBoatface
I like the framework in the cockpit. That think was like an old butcher's bike! 2

PeterB
Certainly looks better than some of my old Hurricane kits - and it has actually got the so called "dog box" at the rear of the cockpit unlike some. Pete

Rafwaffe
Wings together and cut out the flaps to model them in the down position (resin Flaps on order) I’ve got the wheels in the down position for now but will hold off until the last safe moment in the hope I can do the wheels in the up position to hopefully get a cradle made or scratch build one. Speaking of cradles I just want to send a thank you to @MACALAIN and @Pete M. for their assistance.

Hopefully won’t be too noticeable if mounted on a cradle. Note to self for next Hurricat build; remember the inboard flaps!
Rafwaffe
Some more progress this afternoon. Wings attached. Must have been my hamfistedness as there was a sizeable gap between wing root and fuselage. This has been fixed somewhat by using a small piece of scrap sprue to push out the sides of the fuselage. Have to say the fit is lovely and I’m not expecting to do much filling of the wing joins once it’s dry. have to note that the Catapult Spools are ‘exquisite’ (ie bl***y tiny!)Had multiple moments of panic trying to get the excess sprue off them and get them fitted! Have to say they look nice tiny as they are!
