Don't know if anyone else had this problem. I got to the assembly of the rear wing. When I had the car upside down to install the 2 Br-2 rear wing struts, I didn't see that they were too short. I was grinding areas to make the wing go to a position where the struts met the two holes, screwed them in and when I turned the car over, the wing was pointing up instead of down. Am I going to have to make my own struts (longer ones) to make the rear wing point down or will Scaleauto Works send me the correct length ones?

Bosco,

Those struts are ajustable. When you look closely, you can see that the top part is thinner than the bottom part.
They are telescopic. When moved a few times, it goes a bit lighter.
So, nothing wrong with the lengths of the struts you have. Just move those to the desired length.

Yeah and the nice thing is that once fitted the geometry of the wing is adjustable.

Does anyone know the size of the green wire used for the electrics and where I can buy some? tank you.

I bought a mixed reel of PCB/breadboard "wrapping wire" in multiple colours from eBay years ago (like, but not this exact one):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154297100346

It'll keep me in ignition and battery leads, assorted cables, and scratchbuilding gubbins for the rest of my life, I reckon...

best,

M.

SP-2 are the front shock springs. SP-1 are the rear shock springs. DC-16 are the shorter ones and go to the front. The DC-17 are longer and go to the rear.

If you've got instructions that say all the springs are SP-1, then it sounds like you don't have the most up to date revised instructions, which are ESSENTIAL...

I have just seen that DeAgostini have just released a 1/8 scale Ayrton Senna's Lotus Renault 97T. Would go nice along side the 72D, this could be my next project 😀

Yeah have started building the 97T! So far have completed the front and rear wing spoilers! You have to apply the John Player Special brand decals (supplied) yourself.  The Gordini EF engine is very well detailed and I completely agree that it will go very well alongside the 72! It’s a Partwork, but that makes it affordable!

I have three part works on the go at the moment plus the Lotus 72D, so I will need to finish a few of them first, then maybe I'll get the Lotus 97T. Do you get a 1/8 scale  Senna's helmet with it? I think in 1985 they had started banning tobacco sponsorship in the EU and the Lotus 97T only displayed the "John Player Special" at non EU races.

If you pay using PayPal in the UK, you get three 1/5 scale helmets. You also get a 1/43 scale model of the 97T along with a poster and Tee Shirt (which is unlikely to fit me).

As the JPS decals are provided separately for us to apply (for obvious reasons), there is the option to fit/not fit them.

As to banning of the JPS branding. The 1985 Portuguese F1 Estoril race included the JPS branding. The FIA banned tobacco branding in 2001. TV advertising and sponsorship was banned in 1989. The EU banned tobacco sponsorship in 2003.

Normally autograph models in Germany stock some very nice ones. But they’re out of stock. After a long search I found these on www.bestbalsakits.com in Belgium.

I must say, a bit expensive for 50 Euro’s. But you get 155 clamps in all sorts and sizes, enough for a lot of kits.

After seeing your post I ordered a set too, and as you said they were a bit pricey. Anyway they arrived today, what size screws did you use? and where did you buy them from? I tried a 1mm but that seemed too big.. Thanks

I used dummy allen bolts which I had at hand. They came from autograph models in Germany. They now have better and smaller options also. These heads ate in fact too high. However when I look at the model now, you don’t notice it.

Autograph dummy allen screw stainless 0,75 / 1,25 mm - 100 pc.

when you go to the website, choose parts, and go to dummy model bolts. They have reasonable prives, and ship worldwide.

You’re welcome. As for the FE parts. The supplied manual is a bit minimal. Beware that the numbers, under the parts to be folded to the square pieces where the bolts go in, correspond with the diameter of the tube they go on. Further do these parts have different widths. Also not all off the hose clamps have the same widths.
It took me a few parts to figure this out. Maybe you already know, but otherwise it could save you some ruined parts.

How do you fix the square box to the clamp, do you super glue it? I ordered the bolts you recommended from Autograph, still waiting for them to arrive, then I'll get started on them. Thanks

Yes, the box sits flush on the clamp when you use the correct diameter and width of the box.
Then, with some medium CA on a pin , I hold the pin against the bottom of the box were it toutches the clamp.
These boxes have no real function. You first glue the clamp itself on the tube. Thats’s relative easy, because they’re very thin, and easy to bend.

Be sure to align the overlapping parts exactly, otherwhise the box doesn’t fit well.

Hope you understand this explaination, as English isn’t my native language.

Also check of the hole is big enough for your bolts. I had to enlarge them a bit, but you might get better fitting bolts from Autograph.

Thank you, you're explanation it is very helpful and is far more clearer than the instructions. I will practice with a few first.

Paul Koo has announced his super -detail kit and DVD. His DVD is available now, the kit soon. Here are some sample photos he sent me https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qs6mwz4v5phlbya/AAAAXxDQ5ahWNLWyrJJGDfUSa?dl=0

My next build will be the Pocher Lotus 72D so it's good to see that the detail kit from Paul Koo is "imminent" although I can find nothing on the Autograph website or elsewhere on the web.

Paul will list it on eBay or you can purchase directly from him. He sent out an email to his customers last night. I just ordered the set myself!
