Ok I must be nuts but owing to the simple shapes I reckon I can pull this one off.

Some artwork for the decals, need to be scaled, printed and varnished

Wish me luck…..

  • Marklo changed the title to Sipa Caproni 1/72 Scratch-build

It's about sometime someone did the lovely and talented Stipa! That's a downsized replica of the original, isn't it? About 75%, maybe? Less? At any rate, good luck on this insane brilliant endeavour!

Best Regards,

Jason

So would the centre of a toilet roll be OK for the fuselage in say 1/48 scale ?

Wow it’s amazingly close. Now who says the universe is intrinsically random. Another vote for anti chaos theory I think…

A full working motor for the prop too. This looks far too simple   :frantic:

Difficult crowd or what :)

Would be fun if it had a jet engine

Well it was the basic research vehicle that led to the Caproni campini motor jet. So in a manner of speaking it had the very early makings of a jet engine.

I reckon if you put a jet in it the wings would probably come off as soon as you put any kind of thrust into it. Or else with a straight wing it would suffer from compressibility at relatively low speeds and be uncontrollable.

Can you confirm which brand and variety? I'd hate to see Pat run off and buy a pack of Andrex only to find he should have bought Charmin...

Hmm, it would have been whichever was best value( note not cheapest, if you’re interested google ‘Why poor people pay more for toilet paper’ it’s one of those economics truisms like using the Big Mac as an indicator of cost of living)in one of the five local supermarkets that they were bought in at the time, so no.

A50-BDA27-A6-E6-403-D-BAC8-56-B63-D1-DA8Sheet pieces ready to roll. As I’m using 2mm sheet for the wings I need to se my scroll saw to cut it.

86-A37950-68-F3-4-D3-B-9-ADB-553-CCAEBDCAll blanks cut to size.

AB51805-D-A269-4-D50-AE2-F-CD65-E920-B0-The main components sanded and shaped. Time to walk the dog then I’ll mold the cabin and start assembling.

I still need to make the engine nacelles and the wheel spars. Might mold them too..

Current state of play as of 12:30.

Started at 9:00am so that’s three and a half hours minus walking the dog and getting a cylinder of gas at the local shop so I’ll call that three hours so far.

F0-F81116-6520-49-F9-AC25-5-BED9-B9-A3-AAnd this is what I did between 4:00 and 5:00 I’m starting to get cramp from peeling or maybe sanding, no peeling because I’ve been using an electric detail sander for the build :)

09480-E95-ACE7-48-CF-88-CA-64-BC96-E1-BB
15 minutes of painting, Tamiya Buff which I think I’ll use as the final colour and AK white on the rudder.

Five hours and fifteen minutes. I probably won’t get it finished today but it’ll definitely be done within the GB time limit. Now I need to fabricate some seats and a prop next. A teeny bit of filler, I’ll use ppp from now in so no sanding needed. Then I need to mask the rudder and the blue areas.

You're not 'arf 'anging about then, are you! Pity you didn't use the bog roll. Still, in the time you've nearly finished building this, I would have been able to do a couple of seats, in 1/72nd scale. Probably without the seatbelts.
