The Salty Sea Dog inspiration gallery

I bought a Photo Cube, to try and get better pictures of my builds.

I think it will work, just needs a bit of playing with light colour and brightness.

The first two are 1/144 scale.

1/350. My first sea base.

And my only two forays into the dark art of 1/700. Never again.

Looks good to me except for a slight lack of contrast and colour intensity. How does it work?

the Me109 float plane is just brilliant :D what inspired it, may I ask?

Only my febrile imagination. 😆

The back story was that Goering, drinking heavily at the Casio in Monte Carlo* bet a schwarm of 109s against a beachfront Villa in a game of baccarat with the King of Monaco. Losing, he delivered the four fighters before it was realised that Monaco had no airfield. Another casino customer from the Japanese Embassy stepped up with four sets of floats from their Rufe floatplane fighters, delivered in a diplomatic bag, rather a large one. Once the Monacan Navy, had thus supplemented its pedallo based Navy with an air arm, the King promoted himself to Emperor.

*I think Monaco wasn't invaded, though I may be wrong. Everything else, including the fictional King is pure invention. I tender my abject apologies to the principality.

It’s a collapsible cube with one side missing and a circle of led’s in the ‘roof’, you can adjust the brightness and colour of the led’s, also there is a set of removal ‘backdrops‘. I just need to try to learn how to use my camera properly and not just leave it on auto.

This is more of a warning than an inspiration. I'm building HMS Beagle from a wooden kit by OcCre. The WIP is on page 25 and I've logged 160+ hours of building so far and I haven't even stepped a mast yet! It's paused for a while due to this GB taking precedence but you are very welcome to take a look.

Don't spend too long away from the Salty Sea Dogs though!.

After my earlier post I was reminded of some naval air projects I completed in the last couple of years.

Firstly a Uruguayan Naval Air Station vignette in the early 1950s.

I initially bought one but it was a bit small so I built my own one from foam board and usb led strips bought from the internet. It’s larger than the ones you can buy online and collapsible. That said if you google portable Photo Booth they can be bought for fairly small money.

I hope they inspire somewhat, really looking forward to the GB starting properly.

Given that it's just an inch long, if you hadn't said it's a pike I'd have called it a Short Sturgeon myself.

Ahem, ahem, it is just about 1 centimeter long, I called it all sorts of things when I was making it and painting it, I dare not say what my wife said when she found me making it...

All the best, and thanks for the laugh,
