The In the Navy GB in 2020 was an awesome one. I did seven ships in that, I think.

Here's some different ones though, all 1/700.

IMG_20221222_153827392.jpg?w=1352&ssl=1

PLAN (Chinese Navy) destroyer Hanghou 136, frigate Handan 579, corvette Sanmenxia 593. The big one is the older Dragon kit, the other two are Dream Model (a Chinese model company that does a lot of PLAN subjects). The frigate is pretty heavily armed, with the Buk SAM system plus some ASM amidships.

IMG_20221222_154115551.jpg?w=1352&ssl=1

Mix of WW2 subjects: from left to right IJN cruiser Natori, German Z37 or Z39 destroyer, USS Hamman, HMAS Vampire (I lost the decals) and some kind of IJN minelayer.

These ones I have enjoyed pumping out as OOBs without resorting to PE.

Unusual naval Mossie, another lockdown baby. Hasegawa 1/72.

Another one from around the same time, Corsair, old Airfix kit with rivets that to scale would be the size of potatoes:

A Revell Fulmar. That canopy was a shocker.

And from a bit further back in time a Valom Blackburn Firebrand:

I don't think I have put these up on Britmodeller before, but Ireland IPMS did a Falklands War 40th Anniversary GB, here were my entries.

Kinetic 1/48 Sea Harrier FRS 1.  (Kits World 3d Decal Instrument Panel, & Seat Belts).  Quite a modern aircraft for me!

This was a 2020 project: Hasegawa 1/72 F-4EJ Kai, with Verlinden resin seats and further modifications from the box (correct fin cap, dragchute housing, wingtip fairings and spine antenna). Reworked the pilot's IP coaming a bit to better show the difference in shape vs the conventional F-4E.

DXM’s JASDF markings for 8th Hikotai F-4EJ Kai at Misawa AB (Japan), with this particular aircraft being the winner of the 2003 ACM contest. Tamiya/Gunze acrylics were used for this submarine/ship hunting aircraft, I also used ASM-2 missiles from one of the Hasegawa weapons sets.

I'll be flying the 1/200 scale flag again in this Group Build, although thankfully with a subject that's not quite as small as this one.

An RNAS Sopwith Baby, complete with Le Prieur rockets.  The scourge of the Zeppelin raiders (or at least, that was the plan).

My one and only venture into naval modelling thus far:

British Navy Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan escorting Russian Frigate Admiral Gorshkov through the Channel. A pretty mundane occurrence, although the big Type 45s are quite rare on such duties now, often replaced by smaller coastal vessels or just aircraft. Made from the GHQ 1/2400 wargame whitemetal miniatures, nicely detailed (even including separate microscopic helicopters!) although lacking in decals which were cobbled up from the stash.

I don’t have many naval aircraft, but funnily all  were built in Britmodeller GBs which means I have photos (all 1/72):

A Macchi M5, of MoH recepient Charles Hamman, Adriatic sea, 1918.

8yJA0zW.jpg

A Farman of the Swedish naval air corps, donated by painter Anders Zorn and became a workhorse doing neutrality patrols and mine spotting during the Great war:

GlgjQTE.jpg

A Donnet-Leveque flying boat also donated to the Swedish naval air service. Maybe the first aircraft to carry wheels and skis in addition to landing on water.

2MEdwON.jpg

Flying boat no 6, an Avro 504 (old Airfix) of the Swedish naval air corps. It was only used wintertime after the ice hd set as the naval aviation had no airfields and the plane had no floats:

xBe6CMu.jpg

A Roden RNAS Camel, aboars the Furious:

Z6z3cFn.jpg

And two more modern:

An Airfix B5N2, iirc of the Hiryu aircraft that struck the Helena at Pearl Harbour.

MWWVOrc.jpg

An Eduard Hellcat, of the Indomitable airgroup striking Palembang.

I've gone cross-eyed just looking at all that rigging, @Torbjorn

Some beautiful work there, @Faraway! I love the "SOUTH GOODWIN" one in particular. I'm really looking forward to seeing your build light up the GB.

SOUTH GOODWIN

Thanks Tony.

It did come out quite well, I used Atlantic Models PE set on it, but for some reason I didn’t use real chain. Must have had a ‘senior moment’.

Well, as long as we're posting, the Hobbycraft 1/32 Sea Fury, with some SERIOUS help from the sorely missed Fisher Models:

Oh, and these bad boys:

Tamiya F-14A, Tamiya F4U-1A, Meng F/A-18E. All 1/48.

I have some naughty nautical photos for you from the old days, when I was mostly doin' aeroplanes. All 1/48 scale.

y4myR2DWbeZ0ulWVrmtwZ6NjhZVodMbc4LB8wm4Z

Terrible photo of the Tamiya Corsair kit which I built in the late nineties. It was the second kit made since since a twenty year lay off due to family life. No airbrush then and a heavy use of dry brush. I was very pleased with it and the kit was marvellous and started a long love affair with Tamiya.

y4mA8rRI2BCnnD-Xo6m75wi9F3DU9tzYTTNNmwBJ

Another Tamiya. First biplane since restarting the hobby, I think. It went together like a dream. As with the Corsair, looking at the old photos inclines me towards doing another one - better!

y4mFHvL-aeHC4d_e5LDoPLW3NeJc7xMDokL0XCzq

2006. I was on Britmodeller then, I think. This is one of the aircraft of the Imperial Naval Forces of Monaco, flown off the beautiful beach for lack of a big enough boat.

y4m5Smpf7JHEQRZ9cgEs0iX2BTKKzlwKtOzhBYiv

Tamiya again. I remember transposing the undercarriages port to starboard ending up with the wheels inboard in the style of the Spitfire. Tamiya not as fool-proof as I'd believed. Fortunately it was fixable.

y4mdKTgiHKRbbN_ZQdMhmyUVexl4_rtU8y9l4ICJ

Hasegawa A-4. Another marvellous kit. I was extremely pleased with this one.

y4mEkBIvBNyxvOIkUR5yVi5KQsx_ztZQ3h_deEa0

Is this a Panther? My memory...er. What was I saying. I liked the replacement tail in the blue paint. This isn't a what if, it really happened that way.

y4m3U97KKDIgMS-ekFiZCK6CNKtiOHAP9pHiV1ty

The Airfix Sea Vixen was the last Airfix kit that I enjoyed building IIRC.

y4mCYeKsRUApBXfugz8X2akg0Ac48DaWiqU451u-

Two photos of this one built as a museum exhibit so that I could cut the boring bits off, leave the cockpit roof open, crew it with 'mannequins' ...

y4mmMRyb0YVQMXAhTnUGf-8uWu0_5xucSOR9Eg-5

... and scratchbuild a full interior loosely based on the real thing.

y4mP_63H5VrlWXv_Q4LRmtYa0kJRWbKFlZ9_nv4_

The Tamiya F-14A was state of the are 'perfect' kit to build but by now I was quite bored with OOB aircraft. It came out well though. I recall that this was the last Xmas present my mum was able to give me.

y4mIrQ7-5gfrzdHaP6tteVT5_V0rNO6N7IY4FHVW

A boat! Revell? I built it as abandoned by its deserting and homeward bound crew in the early summer of '45.

I hope you enjoy looking at these old timers as much as I did.

I hope you enjoyed the last batch because I found some more.

In 2021 I had a Hellcat season.

y4m69hpAw_s1LvsSCO1xFn9Oeg1mSKnLVYIA0b2O

A drone.

y4mU02eWIU2JVj31AaOfTs7WOevJAag-kPh5lP9y

Engine running.

y4mBnJo89IrPV6hPb4RPZ1Vc-vQ5eeCHBaGCVd2i

Dull.

y4mWTf5IkcOIWj2wDNJDZwtKhFoO9_QMX4odn9aR

Nice and bright!

y4mlQjbLXFCrqnUGPGH7AbbxAhPxMd5PQ3Wfa2pt

My first wooden boat from last year.

y4m-NYr4dHOoVSv9ua57g2xJiHrrojEMpAZmM859

And looking for this was what started these posts of mine. It's a sub copping hell from a Beaufighter's guns and rockets as seen on many a YouTube gun camera sequence. The sea is plaster of Paris built up around cocktail sticks for the splashes. It weighed a ton! This must have been 20 years ago. How time sinks.
