H.M.S. Ramillies

Hi Folks

I'm looking for a kit of 1/350 or larger of the WW1 but mainly WW2 H.M.S. Ramillies

I know there are models of other Revenge-class super-dreadnought battleships (Royal Oak and Royal Sovereign) but they are now discontinued or of smaller size (1/700)

If anyone has any Revenge-class super-dreadnought battleships or know where I can obtain one please inform me so I can enquire.

This is for a personal project as my grandfather served on her during WW2 and was injured on her after the midget sub attack on her after the Battle of Madagascar. He survived this and re-joined her for the D-Day landings.

My mother has pictures of him in his naval uniform when he served on her but I would love to build the ship to give to her to place the photos and his medals next to the ship that protected him to come back and extend his family (that's including my mum).

Thank You

Hi,

The only kit that immediately comes to mind for me is the old FROG 1/500 HMS Royal Sovereign kit that has been released many times by various Eastern European manufacturers, and can be found on eBay.  It is a fairly old kit, with some releases really showing its age, but it possibly could maybe be built up to something decent with some work and added details.

Pat

PS.  Here are a couple links to some builds of the kit for reference

I'm still investigating the kit and I know it's expensive but far cheaper than Deans Marine by £300 so if it goes ahead I will post on the forum about the progress

Cheers

If it helps, HMS Ramillies' torpedo bulges were most like those fitted to Royal Oak. Those on Royal Sovereign, Revenge and Resolution were rather different.

Thank you every little snippet of information will help me when going for the build so keep it coming 👍

If you are interested in Ramillies and do not have it already, it's worth getting hold of this book published in cooperation with the HMS Ramillies Association:

https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Battleship-Ramillies-Hardback/p/6765

Also the old 1:500 scale kit can be augmented by 3D printed gun turrets and by the Atlantic Models photoetch set:

https://atlanticmodels.net/onewebmedia/Instructions Files/R-Sovereign500.pdf

It's a poor kit and requires a lot of work, but is all that is available bar the other larger scale kits mentioned earlier in the thread. Here is my own attempt at her. One of these days I will get around to finishing her:

but I'm wondering if a 1/350 scale Warspite or similar couldn't be cut & shut to come up with an R class.

This plan seems realistic to me.

The hardest part in my opinion is to find plausible drawings:hmmm:

Not drawings as such but these two websites have a lot of information regarding the differences between the R-class boats.

https://naval-encyclopedia.com/ww2/uk/revenge-class-battleships.php

https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/64706-whats-the-difference-r-class/

I don't claim to be an expert on them, but they may be an aid to unscrambling the different features that apply to Ramillies.
