mouse808
Hi all Would anyone be able to help me here, a good friend has just been given this photo of his grandfathers Argus and I'd like to make a model of it. I found some documentation that stated Quote 1961-05-28 Noted outside at Moorabbin. Paintwork described as overall turquoise with white trim. So the body and the white roof seem obvious, but what about the top and bottom of the wings, do you think everything was turquoise. What about all the struts? I've managed to find another picture of it. That looks like the front and rear cowl are natural metal? And lastly it seems to have ended up in a museum in NZ, that might be some original turquoise left over (thou it now has wheel guards???) Thanks for any help Lee
Kari Lumppio
Hi! Nice plane and pictures. I think the turquoise in the last picture is the colour of the covering material, which probably is Ceconite: https://www.univair.com/paint-dope-fabric/view-all/ceconite-101-fabric/ Cheers, Kari
Scott Garard
Lee, 2 more photos here: http://www.edcoatescollection.com/ac1/austcl/VH-EMP.html It looks to me that the wings topside are white like the roof, with turquoise rego on right wing. The wings underside and the rest of the plane are turquoise with white regos (edged in black or blue) and white tail logos. Engine cowlings are bare metal. Wheels are grey. EDIT: Found an enlargement: https://www.airhistory.net/photos/0143724.jpg Here it is today after restoration: https://www.goodall.com.au/australian-aviation/fairchild-24/F24 EMP as ZK-AUN Omaka 7.21-Graham Orphan-KOM.jpg Cheers! mouse808
Thank you so much for the replies, they're great photos, wonder when the emblem on the tail was added?? Anyhow with great excitement I opened the model this morning, only to find the the rotary engine is missing Its a "PUR" part that is separate from the sprue https://www.scalemates.com/kits/az-model-az7527-fairchild-uc-61-forwarder--1009943 (it has the option for doing Mk I) *EDIT Looking at this more, maybe this version doesn't come with the engine, thou it has the instructions and injection moulded bits. Right scratch build of a radial, yikes! (I looked if I could 3d print one, but my printer wont do that resolution) Edited December 5, 2022 by mouse808 update
Prop Duster
Should be a great looking project. About radial engines: Google 1/72 radial engines, and pick the resin or 3D engine that suits your fanicy
mouse808
Hi all, sorry not sure this is fit for a RFI as I feel I could have done better but ran out of time (and still very much learning) So I did try making the engine with some styrene rod and wire. The fit of the windshield was dreadful and I couldn't find the right sized white decals for the reg and defo no turquoise ones, but it kinda turned out ok Thanks again for the help Edited January 9, 2023 by mouse808
stevehnz
That turned out better than OK, that looks really good, you've demonstrated great modelling skills. Shown me a way forward too as I've the same boxing but wanted to do the radial one, no excuses now. Steve.
