1/72 Arma Hobby Yak-1B Winter Camoflage

Recommended Posts

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

winter is coming!

This is my 1/72 Arma Hobby Yak-1B in whitewash camo, built from the "Expert Set".

Painted with Mr.Hobby acrylics, photos by Wolfgang Rabel.

The model's upper surfaces were first painted in standard camoflage (green/black), then oversprayed with White, representing the aircraft of Major Boris Yeryomin, Stalingrad area, 1942.

The chipping and wear-and-tear were created with Tamiya masking tape and Vaseline creme.

I may be naive, but how do you use the Vaseline?  I am very curious about this.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your interest, George.

There's nothing special about Vaseline, any type of fat cream (Nivea etc) or even Marmite (no kidding) will do.

I covered small areas, using a bristle brush, where I could imagine some wear and tear of pilot and mechanics.

After painting the creme can be removed with a moist tissue, will leave no residue, and reveal the basic paint beneath.

On the rudders, I used pieces of Tamiya tape, and ragged their edges with a hobby knife.
