IAF Dassault MD. 450 Ouragan in 1/48 scale

The Dassault Ouragans (= Hurricane) were the first French manufactured fighters of the Israeli Air Force. They came into service in 1955 when the plane type replaced the Gloster Meteors as the most modern fighters of the IAF. The Ouragans saw combat service in the Suez conflict (1956) until the Six Day War (1967), and were only replaced in January 1973, just before the Yom Kippur War. A dozen IAF Ouragans were subsequently sold to the El Salvador Air Force.

 

After seeing the Ouragan at the IAF Museum, Hatzerim in 2005, I decided to build the shark mouthed fighter with the black and yellow Suez campaign identification stripes. IsraDecal make decals in 1/48 scale for that fighter but the only plastic kit I could find was Heller's kit in 1/72 scale. Finally, I found a 1:48 resin kit on the net by the French manufacturer JMGT which I ordered and the decals from IsraDecal.

 

This was the first resin kit I had ever built. The only plastic part of the kit was the canopy. The landing gear and a few other parts were of white metal and photoetch.

 

It was a "long march" with the resin kit, but it was actually of very good quality and the assembly was much easier than I had feared. I finally finished the Ouragan, and IMHO it resembles the very fighter quite satisfactorily.

Valom do 72nd kits as well, which are  more modern than the Heller, which is 70's era, basic with raised panel lines but AFAIK basically decent.

The JGMT is long OOP,  Isradecal did a much more detailed 1/48th resin kit a few years ago, but was $70, a quick check shows it's still available

Includes: 78 resin parts, vac-u-form canopies, photo-etch parts, decals and instructions. Markings for Israeli AF. Decals printed by Cartograf, Italy.

 

I'm surprised this has not been done as injected kit (yet....)   as it saw combat with the Israeli's in 1956 and 1967, and also with the Indian AF as the Toofani,  in 1965,  as well as being used by the French and being in the Patrouille de France.

Thank you very much for the info👍 I built the model nearly 20 years ago and at thatt time the JGMT kit was the onky Ouragan in 1/48.

Fantastic job! I've fancied an Ouragan for a while but as you mentioned it's difficult (and expensive) to pick up a kit which isn't 40+ years old. Superb job on it!
