Another Tamiya Sd.Kfz 222

Recommended Posts

Allrighty

While I was waiting for putty to dry on the Bugatti in the PRRRS GB, and having some time to gat at the ench today, I made a start on Lt. Gruber's "Little tank" (at least I think this is what that was meant to be)

222

Sprues and other bit's'n'bobs

222

Rattling on. Step 1

222

Step 2

222

Steps 3, 4 and 5, but not attaching the wheels just yet

222

And, err, barrelling along with the first part of step 6

222

So far, it's gone together really well. hopefully the rest does the same.

The Bugatti needed a lot of fettling to get it together so a nice simple build will help restore the mojo

More soon(ish)

That barrel looks good, and the etch is a big improvement for the grenade screen

I reckon they will make a huge difference to tthe kit overall

The barrel looks really nice close up

Not so many pictures today. I got into the "zone" and rattled along kind of fast

It really does just go together with very little effort

Assembling the gun and operator mount

222

And all stuck together

222

Started slapping together the top 'alf of the body

222

And then everything wound up like this

222

I now need to paint the insides before I can button 'er up

My extremely fast research seems to show white interior, so that's the next step

Figures are not my stongest point but I do need to have Lt Gruber sitting on his little tank

More soon(ish)

Coming together nicely Peter. You can't beat a Tamiya kit if your Mojo is low IMHO.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well, it's done

I never go the chance to post an update last week, but there are some pictures, so let's hope I can remember what I was doing at the time ....

Primed, painted and ready for decals

20221204_103342

And decals applied

20221204_123154

I did have a bit of trouble. Some were really slow in separating from the backing paper and they didn't want to shift after they touched the model

20221204_123203

Once the decal had set, I gave it a quick flat-coat then removed the masking

Sunday

Stuck on the wheels and the other remaining bits, including Lt Gruber, then did some weathering with Flory washes and Tamiya weatheing powders

Sunday

All done

Sunday

Thanks to everyone for your comments and likes or just for looking, and to the mods for their cat-herding

Pics will be in the gallery soon(ish)
