Gloster Meteor TT22

In for a penny, in for a pound. I found this Xtrakit boxing of the Matchbox NF11/12/14 in the stash and thought I’ve got 3 on the go so why not a fourth. The TT22 was based on the NF11 so this is a reasonable starting point. The airframe is the same but the target towing appendages will need added. I’ll see if there’s any aftermarket available but if not it’s into the spares box to see what can be rustled up. I certainly have enough drop tanks to be able to sort something out. Anyway here’s the kit.

Three grey plastic sprues with a number of optional parts for the various Marks.

Although a more modern boxing the instructions scream Matchbox.

Nice transfers which I’ll use the stencils and some of the roundels.

And a commendably clear set of canopies, albeit a tad on the thick side.

There’s a fair number of images on the web which I’ll use as a reference but I think they’re copyright so I’ll just give the links.

There’s a fair amount of work with the finish as well as the fabrication of new bits. Black and yellow striped undersides, High Speed Silver upperworks  with yellow bands and serials, etc out of the stash. So it’s on we go.

Thanks @Corsairfoxfouruncle I think this was one of the first Meteor kits I got with the intention of converting it into a T7, but that was a big job. And thankfully Special Hobby produced a T7 so it was pushed to the back of the stash. This GB has given me the impetus to have a go.

Anyway some paint on and some of the sub assemblies done.

  • 2 weeks later...

A bit more work on the cockpit. I’ve added some seat belts, basically to give something to see. Also glued the fuselage halves together and the fitnisn5 bad.

However, the fit of the tail isn’t so good, but nothing some filler won’t fix. I suspect the nose will be similar. It’s sitting full of liquid lead waiting for the glue to dry.

Cockpit interior glued into the fuselage. I have given it a dry brush with aluminium to lift it a little but it’s still a little dark. There’s a couple of seat belts still to add but I’ll get the fuselage all cleaned up first.

The coaming popped on. It’s a reasonable fit but a fair amount of filler was needed, as well as needing tape to hold it

Fuselage cleaned up and polished.  Looking not too bad.

Wings assembled, complete with mandatory glue finger mark. A bit of filler will be needed.

Wings and empennage added, a bit of filler all round required. But now ready for some paint.

Though I’ve lost a seat belt along the way. Easily if irritating fixed.

Some yellow on the undersides, it’ll take a few coats more but getting there.

The nose wheel bay needs a bit of work but I’ll get there later.
