Good Sunday!

The last from the production line is a F4U-1A from the VF 17 "Jolly Rogers" when based in the Solomon island, in Ondogo New Georgia mid November 43. This unit was supposed to be the first to use the new fighter on carriers, but went through a lot of problems which led the transfer of the VF 17, until the problems were solved, to the hot Solomon front during the US offensive to Bougainville. The plane of "Butch" Davenport, white 33 is represented here. The land based Corsairs are a real great subject to try or improve your weathering technics, as the coral sand, humid weather, and constant missions were merciless to the airframes and colors. This is my attempt, thanks for looking, cheers, Jean.

Hello Jean,

The subject could be boring, as it is often overused, but I never get tired of seeing a beautiful montage, like yours.👍
The weathering is still a model, congratulations for your work.:goodjob:

Some might say that the wheel bays are the wrong colour, but knowing your quest for veracity, I have no questions.

And thank you for sharing your constructions.  :worthy:

Regards,

Eric-Snafu35

I really like it. I'm a Corsair fan and that's up there with the  best.

I think the wheel well  colour is correct. As far  as I'm  aware only the  tailwheel  well was salmon on early-1As. I'm  sure I  remember  Dana Bell saying it was phased out in 1943.

Extraordinaire comme d'habitude Jean!

Le saumon va beaucoup mieux sur le gril que sur le train d'atterrissage d'un Corsair.🙂

S'agit t'il de la maquette de la Hobbyboss ou Tamiya?

Saluti

Giampiero

Tamiya caro amico.

Salmon was phased out before the 1A was built. Somewhere just past the 200th airframe. So only very early -1s had salmon.

And the main wheel wells were always over-painted with the underside camouflage. This was published in the build technical orders. There were some very early -1 Corsairs that had the tail wheel well left in salmon.
