The taube is finally back on the bench and the rigging nightmare commences. I’m gong to do one r two lines at a time and get it done that way rather than trying to do it all in one go.

And gets some seats. The rear cabin needs a stick and an ip.

AF5-C0979-DAE1-4981-9392-78-CEFA4-B1-A8-One side done. When I build the next one ( it’ll be a Grille or a Marder or a 38(t) ) I’ll probably build the running gear in reverse ie make bogies and fit them to the hull.

did some cutting and molding I now have a set of Schurzen and the makings of the mantlet.

1-E6287-B5-8761-4793-A1-DB-5617-A1-A35-BI also had a brainwave, what if I make a vac from mold from my masters, then resin cast them with the plastic mold. Worked a charm and the mold is fully reusable. Considering that I’m planning at least one more 38(t) build next year the method lends itself well to multiple castings.

BD177-A9-C-3-EC7-4-F0-B-9-D29-B6-BA5-ED3Some homemade resin cast track segments.

AA476347-2-B82-4040-9298-03-BF323-D0859.The mount, mantelet and gun barrel ( cut from a fairly good paint brush :) ) dry fitted. As with little Willie I’ll use the rubber for the curved sections and the resin for the straight bits, the schurzen will cover up a lot if the track detail anyway.

A bit more fitting then glued in place and given a rough coat of paint to check the joints/profiles. Happy with that, I’ll start fitting the tracks next. Hatches, mudguards schurzen and not much else before we’re ready for paint…

Tracks on mostly resin pieces. I managed to get the he bend on the resin piece on the left by running hot water over it and progressively bending it. Of course I’ll probably find the other rubber track now. That’ll go on the next 38(t) I build.

Oh and a radiator.

That leaves mudguard brackets, the gunners optics and the hatch for them and an exhaust and MG42 and shield and I think it’s camo ready. As you can see I’ve masked the road wheels ahead of time. First colour will be silver then hairspray then red oxide then hairspray then dark yellow and so on. Still need to decide on the final scheme, I like the ambush scheme but for Hetzers it’s a bit hackneyed, hmmmm

Not a great afternoon on the bench. My tale of woe.

1729-F44-D-DB9-A-44-BB-9187-0-F7-CC6-E79

Rattle can silver followed by hairspray so far so good.

FFBE0-C07-C700-41-D7-A0-F2-4-A1-F927-E64Rattle can rust orange peel so I kept spraying.

134637-DA-5431-4-BE8-A039-BDEE91773-D2-CThe end result a bit of a mess. I’ll let it dry and then just buff it back, the hairspray should make the rust easier to remove……

2-F08-F952-B783-4434-9299-3-E94795-AC41-After about an hour of scraping and sanding, the Hetzers back in the land of the living. Although it still looks like a candidate for the Entropy GB.

237-DBDB6-6-D34-48-BF-910-D-7-CE63-DADA3After a quick coat of grey, no orange peel to be seen and remarkably most of the details have survived the ordeal.

E795-B047-443-A-4-A16-A56-F-FE0-FF4-E214Back in silver, I think I’ll let it dry for a day or two and maybe reinstate the damaged details before progressing with the paint job. Phew……

Mire Taube rigging, almost starting to enjoy this :)

8937231-C-1-F9-C-4376-B14-C-C1316-B252-Fa rough coat of hull red over the silver in the Hetzer. This will mostly  be covered up with camo.

EFE8-F983-7-A13-49-FD-909-F-1-AD2-F59246and the start of a multiple master for the inner track links for the Renault, by my calculations I need seventy six, so molding them Five ( or possibly ten) at a time will make the process easier and quicker.

AD84-BE95-95-AD-42-E2-AA38-3-FA07-E539-FNo it’s not some weird spider it’s a rigging loom for the wing tips. Five lines into a ferrule made of .8mm aluminium tube.

E2-E72988-1737-4153-AE6-F-300-D73-D399-A

Here it is being assembled.

A9414-E42-1-BD9-478-D-A009-3-E14587-ED3-And overall progress on the upper rigging. The strut and ferrule from brass tube are new additions as is the rigging attached to them.
