1946-1964 ('Baby Boomers') GB Chat

Hi all.

I'm part of the Baby Boomer generation (having been born during the post-war surge in birth rate that occurred between 1946 and 1964).

However, I'm not the only fantastic thing to have been created at that time ;).

It was a period of great technological change, not least because of the move from propeller to jet propulsion for aircraft.

During that period, we saw the transition from things that were basically just re-worked WWII designs, through to totally modern products for the new age.  Lincolns to Vulcans, Lancastrians to 707s and MG-TCs to DB5s (for example).

So I'd like to propose a Baby Boomers Group Build please, open to any subject that was manufactured from scratch (in any nation), within the period 1946-1964 (inclusive).  Entries may show the subjects later in their careers (i.e. post 1964), but not if by that time modifications have resulted in the subject being re-classified as a different mark, type, variant etc. (relative to its original construction).

In addition, and in recognition of this GB's pre-Bunfight merger with the '1950's Aircraft' GB proposal, models of any aircraft that were operated during the 1950s (regardless of when they were manufactured), will also be acceptable.  Entries must show the subjects as they appeared in the 1950s and unfortunately 'museum pieces' and subjects operated primarily for the purpose of preservation will not qualify.  A separate Gallery will be provided for subjects manufactured before 1946.

@CliffB absolutely yes, this covers a massive part of my stash, F-82, F-86, F-94, F-100, F-104A, F-106, Hunter, probably more. Would have to check that a particular airframe was built in the dates. Great idea.

Chris

Thanks Chris.  I'd better start a list then!

I could get one of those 3-D prints of me...😱

As a new-born?  Let's not go there!

Anything else that tempts you though?  Something sporty from the 60s?

I don't know; most of the GB proposals I supported this year didn't even reach the bunfight. 😀

Same here Chris - that's why I given myself a whole year to get to try to get to 30

I'm about smack in the middle so I guess I'd better.  :)

Steve.

Thanks Steve :thumbsup2:

Thinking about my own options, I'm drawn towards one of the early Airfix car kits (maybe Sunbeam Rapier?).

I've also got an Avro Tudor kit - Britain's first pressurised airliner, but still piston-engined and with a tail wheel u/c.

Cheers

Please sign me up for this! An EE Lightning would be my choice, but I can easily be tempted to do two

Ray

PS, I do believe subjects other than EE Lightnings were produced in your time span, so I may be able to diversify too
