KingTiger435
Hello! I'm back with another FAA build... This one was difficult, the kit itself is fantastic but there are very few (good) references out there for early FAA corsairs. I digress, I'm very happy with how this turned out: Here she is with my FAA Martlet, they look good together! Farmerboy
Superb, guessing it’s the Tamiya kit?

georgeusa
I do not think I have ever seen a Corsair with a FFA camo scheme. The FAA scheme looks so much better than the US Navy schemes of either all blue or different blues with white undersides. It is really striking and actually makes the aircraft look even better. Wonderful build. Thanks for sharing. 1
Dave Klaatu
Well done, nice work! I've never seen one in camo, very nice!
Robertone139
Nice job! I always believed that British Corsairs had the wingtips trimmed to fit in the lower ceiling ob FAA's carriers.

Learstang
Very nice indeed! Sounds like a kit I need to pick up as I've always fancied doing a FAA Bird-cage Corsair. Regards, Jason

kapam
Very inspiring! I have the Tamiya kit in my stash and your build really looks great! I confess I wasn't aware that the FAA had Birdcage Corsairs, so I've learnt something too. 👏👏

Whistlekiller
I've been looking at doing one of these. I keep on coming across references showing Corsair Mk.IIs painted Olive Drab/Grey over Light Grey underside camouflage by Vought. The XtraDecals I have for a later Corsair Mk.II I have in the stash seem to confirm that. Were the earlier Corsair Mk.Is painted in the UK with the standard TSS?

Yes, this is the decal sheet I bought There are coloured images of FAA corsairs out there in TSS, however I'd have to find them again as I didn't save them.
Grey Beema
Lovely Corsair. Nicely finished and I like your Martlet too. Corsair looks nice and fresh and you are right not to clip the wings for a MkI. There have been several threads about this but Vought painted their aircraft in US equivalent colours. Olive Drab, Dark Sea Grey and Sky Grey. Whereas Olive Drab and Dark Sea Grey colours are reasonably well understood, Sky Grey is open to interpretation (can of worms opened). I did a mass purchase of Colour Coates, including US equivalent paints, earlier this year I’ll be painting up a Corsair but it’ll be later ‘23 before I get around to it.. Dogleg
So glad I found this thread. Going to build the Tamiya 1/72 Birdcage, but with a personal angle. A family member was FAA, flying the Corsair out of Quonsett, RI in mid-1943. Unfortunately he was killed in a training crash aged 19 - I’d like to replicate his aircraft as a tribute (if that isn’t too morbid?). I have the details from the RNAS site, so some extra decals and we should be good - just need to work out how to get the specific lettering details sorted.
