dov
Hallo This is now my second Ju-88 from ICM. I built before my A-5 version. I will make the aircraft from KG 54 Totenkopf. Operative in Brindisi in Italy around 1943. I will make the aircraft from KG 54 Totenkopf. Operative in Brindisi in Italy around 1943. Brindisi is in the middle of the heel of the Italian boot at the eastern coast. In this area there occurred one of the biggest environmental pollutions. Here is the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_John_Harvey From Wiki German edition translated / English version of Wiki this subject is omitted! The most momentous air raid occurred on the night of December 3rd, when II. Gruppe, together with other squadrons, attacked the port of Bari. 18 ships with a total of 71,566 GRT and 38,000 t of cargo were destroyed. The Liberty-class freighter SS John Harvey exploded with a cargo of 2,000 AN-M47 bombs filled with a total of 480 tons of mustard gas. 1000 soldiers and civilians perished. The Allies concealed the consequences of the mustard gas on those affected. The camo is interesting, a good difference to the splinter scheme of my A-5. I will use Montex masks. Which individual a/c I will do, my options are from the same squadron LR or LA. Now, to face the main issues on this kit. The cockpit is wrong. We face here a flat floor, which is not so at all in reality. We have three possibilities. · To leave it as it is · To use a resin aftermarket cockpit · Or to make some scratch I decided after my experience with the resin from AIMS for the third choice. To avoid fitting troubles with the glass and fitting problems with the Bola. (Boden Lafette) The downward gondola. To improve the fuselage stiffness close to the wings I made one bulkhead in scratch. Before continuing with the build I emptied one sprue and did the main gear already. One error in the instruction is obvious. Look at the picture 48! The gear main mount is too small in gauge. About 1 mm. I had this problem when inserting the gear on my A-5 already. In this kit the difference is more. So I increased the gauge with steel wire to the proper distance as required. Meanwhile I did also the wings. Assembling, grinding, and filling. I inserted the landing light, after spraying the backside with Aluminum. At the wing tips I drilled holes, since this kit omitted the position lights in red and green. Well, it is done! So far this day. Walter
I don't see the correlation between the two pictures, you point to different places in each or am I missing something 🤔
Zack
Two different problems: #1 The instructions in step 48 tell you to join D35 the the knee of part E5 from step 47, same error in step 43. #2 the support A1 in step 41 is not wide enough for part D25. I did not have that issue. @dov following this with interest - I was aware of the problem with the height of the floor but did not know how to best correct it. Or just lazy There is a very good thread over at the friends @LSP by junker88a1, you might want to check this out. Will find the link later... Looking forward to see your progress here, challenging camo 😮 Thank you for sharing and as always: Stay safe, stay sane and happy modelling! dov
@Zack yes I have seen this link and spent one day on the wonderful pictures. Here I became wondering about some details, which are logical museum errors. Like the installation of the bombardier control stick. Normally it is stored on the right side, at the position of the bombardier’s seat. The wooden floor has to changed, as far my information is, on later variants to metal floor. Here: You will find the link to a full manual, at the end of this threat. Some details I look for: The floor part above the entry hatch! Since this part must be fully closed, since otherwise the gunnery on the right is impossible! The empty shell hose is also missing! In summery I can say, that the A-4 is quite cramped inside, due to amo full & empty boxes and feeding systems, belt and hose. Will see, how I proceed! dov
Hallo Main levers at the left console. Her you see what it should be: What the etched parts give you and that the general arrangement is absolute out of proportion! My way to correct the floor. Not so high as the resin, but still there. The headrest for the rear gunner is too high, so shorten a little bit. Ammunition boxes for all MG’s. I had no idea how to install the front amu box. Rear outside frame removed, as it should be. Just iunside frame. This bulkhead is missing in Eduard. It is from AIMS. So far today. Happy modelling
dov
Hallo Here is some progress. Tiny steps. The mounting for the front amu box is done. The trimming wheel: Here the inner circle is the correct outline. At the A-5 I had there a mess, because I was not aware about the cramped area there. So, step by step the learning process from the A-5 is visible. Happy modelling
dov
Hallo Now some steps further. The etched parts I took from Eduard. One major thing for me was, since I learned from the A-5 version, to rethink what to assembly first. I changed in many ways the assembling sequence at the side walls, and bottom. Also taking more care on some details. Well, no the fuselage is together. I added one additional bulkhead at the position of the trailing edge. To get the fuselage more stiff, to have a good joint with the wings than later on. You also see my cleaning of models. It happens once the year and takes us two full days. In our wall installation there are 45 compartments full of models. About 150 to 200 which my wife and I built during more than 25 years. The best of them are there, all others given away. dov
Hallo Now all parts are sprayed. The assembling of the main wing is quite tricky. You need some force to the centerline of the a/c to get it. It always tries to snap off at the wing upper side. With some little glue and more force, I got it. The forward pin at the port side is a little more offset as on the star side. The next issue is the motor gondola. Here I finished it completely, without gluing the rear section. The gear has enough space. But the wheel bay doors! Here the plastic parts are done in such a way, that they intersect with the forward main gear mount! So to grind it down, that clearance is done. At the A-5 I fixed it at the final finish, but it was a nightmare. So I changed the sequence. I will not use the MG in this version. The feeding belt from etched parts looks lousy, and the empty chute house is not there at all. The munition boxes I did all from etched parts. So my MG’s are in maintenance. Next day spraying RLM 65 and 70. Happy modelling
dov
Hallo Now, after a long spraying period, and with some set-backs I am on the right track. The pattern for spraying the camo meander gave me something to grasp about it. With the spraying gun, no chance. Now I have two options: By brush or by pen. The acrylic pen I never used, and did nor try it. I have to refill it with my paint of my choice. The images (Link) show a sharply defined pattern. It is noticeable that the pattern is completely irregular and has crossovers. The pattern also shows irregularities in the amount of paint and line thickness. Underside pattern probably to be made with a brush, as shown in the example with the M346 auxiliary tank. Upper side probably with a pen (significantly more irregular line thickness). Let's see what will happen. dov
Hallo Here my white outline of the L is masked again! Test for the walk way. The masks make a too wide bar. So I must use decals. Here I used a pen. Acrylic empty pen from Montana. First time I used it. Happy modelling 1
