Airfix New Tool 1/72 Meteor & JP (New Pics)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Here’s the brand new Airfix Meteor and not quite so new Jet Provost, very nice kits. I have made the JP before, it really is the perfect kit to my mind - simple, good fit, refined panel lines (not all like that!) and a plethora of lovely colours schemes! The Meteor will be written up for a new magazine- Phoenix Aviation Modelling.

I'm off to Telford at the weekend and these will be on the comp tables if you fancy a closer look 😀 I’m taking a load of models as I haven’t been for a few years.

New photography set up for these pics.

Thanks for looking,

Guy

Looks like you've got a couple of winners there. Nice to see you've made a decent job of that very inconvienient nose joint too.👌

Thanks,

Yep, thats my one criticism of the new Airfix kits - they quite often have large joints in conspicuous places, even if the fits good, it only takes a smudge of glue to make it a real pain to blend in..

I’ve deleted that folder and reloaded so hopefully that will reset it…

Thanks 🙂

Oh just to mention, on the Meteor, I had a hell of a job fitting the wheel halves on each of the 3 wheels - I ended up having a considerable gap along the wheel spats. Even with fettling I couldn’t reduce it, anyone else have that issue?

Beautiful clean builds. The Jet Provost from the RAF College of Air Warfare, RAF Manby.  Likewise, the Meteor F.8 based at nearby RAF Strubby.

Wooah, never really liked the Meteor but have to have that scheme. Is it a box option?

Unfortunately not! It’s from the rather lovely - Air Graphics - AIR72-014 - RAF Training Aircraft of the 1960's. They are super decals, very impressed.

The Meteor is stated as being from 2 Squadron, RAF Flying College 1962 - based at RAF Strubby and the JP - Central Flying School, based at RAF Little Rissington 1968

Wow, so good.

Quick question: was 8 gms of weight enough to stop tail sitting?

Good question. I filled the allocated compartment with lead and squeezed in some extra ‘for mum’ in other nooks and crannies - and it just about hovered on 3 wheels, but breath on it and it would tail sit - I’ve ended up putting more lead in the nose gear bay. I didn’t weigh the lead, but I couldn’t have got much more in!
