Eduard 1/48 Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero Type 21

Recommended Posts

I can't recommend this kit highly enough.

I only had to use smears of filler in a couple of places and that was probably down to operator error.

Primed with Tamiya Neutral Grey.

Painted with Mission Models Mitsubishi Interior Green, Anti-Glare Blue Black WWII Cowl, AK Real Colors IJN J3 Amber Grey, Mr. Color IJN Red (IJN Roundel), Tamiya Nato Black, Flat Aluminium Rubber Black, Flat White, Clear Red, Clear Blue, Dark Iron, Gun Metal, Xttreme Metals Polished Aluminium, ColourCoats Propeller Brown and Light Blue

Washed with Flory Dark Dirt, Citadel Agrax Earthshade and Seraphim Sepia.

Oils used Rowney Graduate Burnt Sienna and Abteilung 502 Starship Filth

Finished with Windsor & Newton Satin Varnish and Alclad Aqua Gloss.

WIP Here.

Looks fantastic as always. This one is right up my street: the type 21 in Hiryu blue is just about the best looking Zero I think,  and you've got that 'tidy but real' weathering down beautifully on this one. The texture and finish of the grey green looks perfect to me; I can't obviously tell that it's pre-shaded, but there's really nice 'natural variation' look, so I think you got it just right. I'm sure learned people will have more sensible views, but the AK amber grey looks, despite its name, really nice. Great first deployment of the Silhouette cutter too! And to boot, the painting and masking of the canopy looks razor sharp. You've turned out a blinder with this one.

Cheers,

Andy

Thanks Andy,

I tried to keep everything as subtle as possible and I think I got away with it.

This is one of those kits that I would build again.

I really had a blast

Alistair

In your case, some more light is need on your model. Special lamp stands with the proper daylight bulbs will greatly improve the definition of your pics, allowing you to use the higher aperture of your lens, f.28 to 35, using all the depth of field you can use, to get all the details in a very neat caption.

Hi Alistair,

That is a fine looking Zero, nicely finished with just the right amount of weathering to give it that real look.

Hope mine turns out half as good as yours.

Thanks for sharing

Kevin

Thanks very much.

I tried to make the effects subtle and for once Mr. Heavy-Handed here just about pulled it off.

I'm sure that yours will be miles better.

Cheers,

Alistair

Thanks for letting us know about the ease and fun of building the Eduard kit.  I have some of the overtrees of this version.  Love the restrained weathering and paint job.  Great all around.  Thanks for sharing.

At the risk of repetition, I think you’ve struck the right balance of craft and realism on this one Alistair.  Lovely job.

Thanks Mark that is very kind when you consider that I nicked your ideas for the control surfaces.

Thanks for all your support through it.

Cheers,

Alistair
