OK, I've added basically everything to the chassis that needed adding, except for the mudguards.

I'm going to paint this as one unit. A little black primer first, to get rid of the red and white. Then grey to make sure I've covered everything. I'm still thinking the chassis will be black grey. Which is another reason for the grey primer, if you paint this as a whole it's easier to make sure you've got paint on all the bits.

I'll have to drill holes for the rear mudguard mounts first though, and add some bolts to the sides of the chassis in visible places. I was dry fitting the wheels, and because the leaf springs are closer to the "disk" (the chassis is wider) the inner wheel rim is catching on the springs. I'll have to fit a spacer, I just hope the wheels don't end up too far out.

I'll finish the cab as well, so I'll have the truck complete before starting on the tank.

That's looking very nice! It'll be interesting to see the paint going on. Myself always find it a challenge to paint such complex assemblies in one piece, to get the paint to reach in everywhere.

Well I just stick that airbrush right up in there, it usually does the trick 🙂

The wheels. I tarted them up with some Meng bolts. Bigger ones on the front wheels, smaller on the back.

Looks decent enough.

For the back wheels, I added a spacer.

This looks fine.

However, the pin sticks through on both rear and front wheels. That's not acceptable like this.

So these pins were cut and card was punched to fill in the holes in the rims. The light is just a little too reflective on the white plastic but you get the idea.

This will do.

Well, just noticed one of the rear bolts is MIA. Fixing that!

First, I had to do some work on the rear mudguards. Normally, these hold the license plate and rear light holders.

But I don't want that for this build. Parts were cut.

I used the attachment points and filled in the rest. I kept the light holders.

The white plastic has been sanded flat and filler applied. That's for later today.

I've been able to cut a lot of parts off the old chassis beams, but they're used up now.

It was a bit tricky to get the mudguards in the right place but I got it. I added some bolts in the most visible places.

Something like this. The mudguards will be painted separately.

That's really it for the chassis. There will probably be paint later today if I have the time.

I had just enough time before it started raining (I have to open a window for the extractor hose) to put everything in primer.

My initial plan was to go black, then grey but it appears I'm almost out of grey primer, I wouldn't have had enough to cover all this. So I kept the chassis and all the other parts I hit in black. I'm going for German Grey as the main colour, it should have enough contrast with the black primer in order for me to be able to see what I'm doing.

I sprayed the german Grey yesterday and clear coated this afternoon.

I sprayed the mud guards and most of the cab trim, except for mirrors and sun visor, in the German Grey as well. I think the blue and grey look really nice together.

I'm having a discussion with myself on the tank colour. I think I want it partially white, the middle part maybe (horizontally), but haven't come up with a second colour. What do you guys think?

I need to do some more work on the rear mudguards before these can be painted as well. More sanding....

Well the chassis and cab colours work nicely together. A white horizontal band on the tank sides and a white rear panel would look good.

My choice for the third colour would be dark blue. It goes with the cab and the chassis. And blue lettering on the white band?

Thanks Pete, I had dark blue scooting around my mind as well, we may be on to something 🙂 .... White band with white rear panel, that sounds really good.

I do like the cab and chassis colours and agree with the white band on the tank - and just to throw it out there, maybe a very dark grey for the rest of the tank?

Keith

Thanks Keith. Dark grey, added to the list. It would have to be black with a little white because the German Grey is actually already very dark, darker than my "Dark grey".

I'll probably do some test pieces and see which matches the other colours best.

I finished the cab, save for some trim. It got attached to the chassis.

Wheels are dry fitted, and the rear mudguards are still in the paint shop.

But this is what I wanted to build, the wheelbase is still short, with a little overhang at the rear.

I can now start figuring out the tank's dimensions and such.

Hi Joroen, man, you aren't wasting any time on this build - and looking great!  I like the use of the German grey, I use Anthracite  which might be a bit darker?  I found that using black doesn't seem to work well at this scale as details all fade back, as you can't see any shadows.  OK, looking forward to your next post

Cheers
