From Postscript Books

Some much reduced price books from the current and from previous catalogues still on their website , recent change now offers free UK shipping on orders over £25.

Fighters Over The Fleet – Naval Air Defence From Biplanes To The Cold War book ,  by Norman Freidman , published 2016 by Seaforth Publishing/Pen & Sword – a hefty 400+ page heavily illustrated in b&w doorstep looking widely at the carrier fighter (and other types) development and tactics including shipborne radar direction and both carrier and land-based AEW as well as the Soviet air-launched missile threat , leans heavily toward UK, US and Japanese (until the end of WWII) involvement while other carrier operators rate only a passing mention , reduced from £45 to £19.99.

Two volume set of Air War Archive - Junkers Ju 88  Part 1 The early Years - Blitzkrieg To The Blitz and Part 2 - Biscay To The Fall Of Germany books , both by Chris Goss , published 2017 and 2018 respectively by Frontline Books/ Pen & Sword each heavily illustrated throughout with b&w archive images , each reduced from £14.99 to £5.99.

Hawker Siddeley Harrier - The World’s First Jump Jet book , by Mark A. Chambers , published 2017 by The History Press , perhaps better as an addition to existing references rather than a stand-alone resource and while reasonable for the £9.99 reduced price perhaps not at the original £25 cover price , 156 pages of which around half are devoted to a history of Hawker/Hawker Siddeley with background provided on two dozen historical aircraft types with b&w illustrations , second half covers Harrier development and service illustrated mainly in colour but with a roughly 2:1 emphasis on US operations for both first and second generations , only twin-seater of any variant shown is an Italian example.

From Hannants

Caracal Models CD48206 1/48 USAF CH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant & Pave Low decal sheet , eventually reached the UK following its release in the US earlier in the year , 13 marking options for USAF CH/MH-53.

Well, to be honest, Bearn only had a passing resemblance to a functional aircraft carrier. So that covers the French.

Unleaded fuel, 91 octane, 5 litres, lawn mower for the use of. Sadly, summer's on its way, and that means that the verdammt grass will need regular attention again. I hate mowing, it's such a waste of time.

I appear to have procured the required "other side" of your purchase...

A new lawn mower. The old one had lasted 27yrs and was still in weekly use and was put out to pasture (ahhh! a joke!).:surprised:

Looks like a nice long hot summer ahead. This "global-warming" nonsesnse is superb!

I was up at the head of the valley this morning, before sunrise, camera in hand (on tripod actually, but let's not split hairs), and there was no sign of any 'global warming' - it was 14C with about 5C of wind chill. The water vapor in the air was condensing on its way up the side of the range and turning into clouds... It will be summer in 3 weeks. For reference, I live at 21 degrees South, so well into the tropics. Global warming, pah.

My mower's at the point of needing either some work, or replacing. Decisions, decisions.

And to stay on topic, on my way home I stopped in and bought a sausage roll, a mushroom pie and a large flat white for breakfast. How's them for latest acquisitions, eh? :D

Was in the process of ordering some Ak paint on eBay told me I won a novo spitfire, forgot I bid on that for the v1, put a spanner in the works as not sure I want to order as many as I had in the basket.  Edit messed up went to checkout the spot and forgot they were all still in the basket so think that’s x6 ak paints also purchased.

Budget rolled over, so:

1/72 Airfix F.6 Lightning

1/72 Sword F.1A Lightning -- I looked up my old build thread of their F.3, and it promises to be hard going, though before my strength failed me, in my youth, (2014, which is apparently a long time ago now) I managed to build a prior F.1A:

And a lot of Lightning decals so I can make XM190/G of 111 Squadron, which participated in Churchill's funeral flypast in 1965.

I seem to have gone from deciding not to purchase anymore kits for a while to accumulation mode. I saw a pic of one of these many years ago and was intrigued. The Panhard EBR looks like something out of a Gerry and Sylvia Anderson techno thriller to my eye. Somehow very French, it's a little different, in fact a design that harks back to the 30s. I'm impressed again by the quality of this HobbyBoss kit, which comes thoughtfully packaged with two compartments in the box, delicate components wrapped in soft foam and separation of sprues and different media into 12 plastic bags.

From Owl decals the other day, a small sheet for a couple of F6F-5Es from VF-33 on USS Sangamon, with the AN/APS-4 under the wing rather than on the leading edge,. The USS Sangamon was the clincher, after reading the Escort Carrier tome & some of Sangamon's adventures, I couldn't not.  Need an AN/APS-4 pod now, something to slip into my next Special Hobby order perhaps. :)

know this is a fool's errand, but I want to build the Hawks as late 1970s-early 1980s jets. I don't suppose anyone has finally produced the early version of the Hawk Mk10 seat, I believe the Mk10B?

This Flightpath set has both types of seat (well headboxes at least)

Hannants have them in stock too for a slightly more expensive price:

I've never found the early seats available separately anywhere else.

Subsequently, I learned Air-Graphics allegedly produce them and sell them via their website -- I've ordered two sets, hopefully they make it to me.

Also: page check of the 111 Squadron ORB for 25 January - 5 February 1965, to see if it has information on which Lightnings and pilots took part in Churchill's funeral flypast.

And, pre-prdered three books by Kristan Stoddart that have been available only as extremely expensive academic specialty publications, but which appear to be coming to reasonably-priced paperback editions:

Losing an Empire and Finding a Role: Britain, the USA, NATO and Nuclear Weapons, 1964-70
The Sword and the Shield: Britain, America, NATO and Nuclear Weapons, 1970-1976

Facing Down the Soviet Union: Britain, the USA, NATO and Nuclear Weapons, 1976-1983

Well, well, well - look at what the postman delivered today! Is there a word more exuberant than ecstasy?     :)

I don't know whether to build it or freeze in a permanent awestruck gaze, followed by gingerly fondling each little 3D printed masterpiece. I will rely on your advice and direction!

Cheers,

Bill

PS. Thanks to Tony for his dedication to this project.   @TheBaron

Strictly limited to the de Havilland Illuminati - are you a member? No, wait, don't tell me. It's supposed to be a secret society.     :)

Give @TheBaron a holler and maybe he can get you initiated.

Cheers,

Bill

Mine arrived late last week and I wholeheartedly agree with your ecstatic exuberation!

@TheBaron is indeed a dedicated scholar of the modelling science to have produced such a quality product

I'm still drooling over the contents in between trying to get the latest gliders and drones in a fit state for Telford!

True fact. I would like to add that the packaging of the model and its contents was absolutely superb. Everything arrived in perfect condition after the trip across the pond. All sharp corners and super thin trailing edges were protected by tape, parts were securely wrapped in Styrofoam, and everything was then prevented from moving around in the box by strategic placed foam blocks. Speaking of the box, could someone please let Revell know what Tony used? Thanks.

Cheers,

Bill
