JeroenS
Some more work on the Maultier this evening. Front bumper and the exhaust, which was a bit of a pain to get in. Also, running board supports. Fit of all these parts, especially the attachment points... mediocre. Then I made a start on the tracks. One track consist of larger and smaller lengths, down to single link. I wasn't looking forward to it but it wasn't half as bad as I expected. I got the first one almost on, just needs some single links to go around the rear wheel. Of course, there's no sag at all, I'll have to do something about that. Anyway, so far so good.
JeroenS
This is the end of the line as far as construction goes. Finished the tracks. Added them to the chassis. And these are the basic parts which I'll paint before putting everything together. The attachment of the pedals and such is very flimsy. I glued some "brackets" around the steering wheel, otherwise I'd have found it roaming around the cab at some point. I don't know whether I'll be using the roof rack, it looks quite crude actually. But I probably will put it on. Maybe some basic paint later this weekend.
Muchmirth
Looking great! Roof rack could probably do with some gnarling up alright, if made of wood, which I’m guessing it is?

JeroenS
Hi guys, Happy New Year to all! It's been a while since I worked on the Maultier, I was busy finishing a build and there was Blitzenbuild of course. But, today I got paint on. Primed in black first, then primed the parts that should be white in grey, over black. When priming grey parts in grey primer, I can't really see what I'm doing. I needed to make sure I had paint on every surface so the white would stick better and not shrink away from the edges. The rest of the vehicle was kept black and I sprayed my interpretation of Dunkelgelb on it. I mixed Tamiya paints, Khaki with Desert Yellow and a little bit of White. It looks like the box art so that's good enough for me Time to get some masking going, for those red crosses.

John Masters
This will be a fine looking build when it's finished. You're already doing it justice, despite whatever shortcomings regarding fit, etc...It looks really great!

JeroenS
I sprayed the red crosses tonight. There were only 2 cross decals supplied, for the sides of the unit. I didn't use them, I have a Silhouette cutter which I use to cut vinyl painting masks. It's quite easy, you can draw the shapes in the "real world" size and cut them. The vinyl applies really easily and can be readjusted, it keeps on sticking. Also, the edges are nice and crisp. This was the easiest one to apply and it came out nicely. This side needs some touching up, the part where it went over the door handles was impossible to mask so there's overspray. The bonnet was the tricky one to mask but it came out well. The box art shows part of a big one on the roof, there's no top view in the colour callout section so I made it up. The size made sense to me but what I didn't take into account was that the cross goes down the sides of that top so those "legs" should have been longer. I will do another round of masking, this time with regular tape, to fill them out to the sides. There's a little battle damage from when I removed the mask. I found out that you can't wait too long before removing the mask, as soon as the paint starts to dry against the mask's edges you will pull the paint off. So I always remove it when the paint is still wet. Some overspray along those windows, there's not really anything to mask against. A little bit of touching up should work fine.

diablo rsv
Lovely job with the crosses. The Silhouette cutter is one of my favourite purchases, I hardly ever use decals anymore. Wayne

JeroenS
Hi guys, it's been a while since I made a report on the ambulance. I did do some work on it here and there, just very piecemeal and not worth writing about each time. I touched up the paint, clearcoated the whole thing, then flatcoated it. We are currently here. I did dash decals and minimal painting in the interior, then put the cab together which worked, but it was a bit of a struggle to get it on. I should have done that differently, probably. I have to say, I've fallen a little out of love with it. Not with how it looks, but with the kit. I must have broken off the headlights 4 times now. They just have silly small attachment points. I keep putting them back on though, each time thinking "this will be the last time". Same with that jerrycan assembly, ugh. I'll probably leave that off. I haven't made up my mind about the roof rack, haven't painted it yet. I may still put it on and put some jerrycans on it to fill it. Makes more sense. The front of the roof looks a but weird, that's because I filled in two small holes there, I should have done that before paint of course, that was stupid. I filled, sanded and touched up the paint but it was a mix and I forgot. Also, I touched up with Vallejo paints, the main paint was Tamiya. It should be hidden with the weathering on. Of course the front window came loose when fitting the cab, oh how I hate that. I'm leaving it, it's still in there well enough. Lastly, I cut off the front wheels, took some material off the axle and glued them back on. They stuck out of the fenders, it looked very weird. The unit is not glued in place yet. Looking at it like this I think the roof rack will add something. Fitment of the small windows in the top was terrible as well. Enough issues to lower my opinion of the kit itself, but I still like how it looks. Next, I'll try to get some colour on the road wheels and the tracks, then start dumping dust and mud on it.

JeroenS
Round 1 of weathering. Many to follow I guess. For now, I painted the tracks with some dark brown / rusty colours, I really just wanted them darkened. I don't think rust will show when this thing has been driving through muddy terrain. After that I sprayed some of those ready made Vallejo washes, spraying and letting the airbrush sputter and splatter. It is Dark Brown, Oiled Earth and Dark Gray. At least it's not white anymore!
Trevor L
Looking good. Going from pristine white to grubby white has made a big difference.
JeroenS
I'm calling it as fas as weathering goes, just some mud around the tracks to add. It's starting to look like a barn find so it's probably enough I've decided on the roof rack. I think it's ugly, looks out of scale and I don't like the way it sits at all. It's on its way to the bin.
JeroenS
I made a new roof rack. I like this much better. I recycled the bars, put them in different positions. It sits better like this and just generally makes more sense to me. I will put together a couple more cans to fill up that space.
JeroenS
The end is in sight. I finished the roof rack with some more cans and the spare wheel. It's not glued in place yet, that will be that last thing to do, but I think it looks good like this. I may be able to finish it this weekend.
