Marlin
Hi. Today I only have a short update. I didn't have that much time at the workbench. But some progress has been made. The cockpit for the J26 is almost done. 172 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And then I've been working on the trouble child, the Sk50. Nothing fits as it should on this kit. 173 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 174 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've had to use plasticard shims both lengthwise to get the nose to come together and on the sides of the cowling as well. And the wings are even worse. 175 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've hade to glue this in four stages, first in the front part, then at the back. And then one side of the wing to get the right angle of the wings. I had planned to prime the S31, but first I couldn't find my Humbrol maskol, and when I found it it had dried to a pink-lilac rubbery goo. So an order to my local hobbyshop was sent yesterday for a new bottle Maskol, and some shades Xtreme Metal colours from AK. I think I'll have them mid week, and I've got a long weekend to look forward to. On Thursday we'll bury my mother, and I've taken time of from work on Friday as well just to take care of myself. To be continued..... /Bosse 3
Marlin
Hi. Another week has passed, and I've got some more progress to show you. The S31 is still waiting for the bottle of Maskol I ordered last week, but it hasn't arrived yet so no progress on that one. On the Sk50 I've puttied the nose section. 176 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 177 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And sanded and polished it as well. 178 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The J26 is coming along nicely. The radiator exhaust has got some paint, first a gloss black base and the Aluminium. 179 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've used AK's Xtreme metal range here, and I'm very pleased with how they behaved. Apperantly they're pre thinned enamels so they smell a bit more than Rea Colors from AK, but nothing that the family complained about. The only drawback I could find is that require some 24 hours before overpainting. I've also glued up the fuselage. 180 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 181 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've dry fitted the wings and I'll have some work here getting a good fuselage to wing joints. So that'll be my task for the coming week, and I'll also paint and mask the canopy for the Sk50. And hopefully will my Maskol and some more paint arrive during the week. So perhaps there will be some painting done during the comming weekend. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi again. I got my Maskol and some more metalics yesterday. 182 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr So I guess I'll be priming the S31 Spitfire this evening. /Bosse
Zack
I am sorry for your loss Bosse. Only just back from Enköping where my mother in law was laid to rest this weekend. Sad times. Good to see you back at the bench! Best regards Zack
Marlin
Thank Zack. I'm sorry to hear that you've also suffered some loss. All our elder heros are slowly disappearing. I've now lost both my parents in 37 months, and I've just realised that I'm now the "elder generation". even if I've more than a decade left until retirement. Yes I'm back at the bench and that feels great. Hopefully I'm going to test some metallics during the weekend. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi, I'm a weak person. I just received some cash I didn't expect, and now I've got this, and lots of resin parts for it, en route to my work desk. I'll build in the natural metal finish as the box art. Armed with the Bofors m/70 135mm rocket pods, but I'll use the full load of four pods instead of two show here in this link https://www.facebook.com/SvMilitarhistorisktBibliotek/posts/1947557178599229/ I could link the picture directly to the text, so you'll have to do with the link. I expect delivery during next week, and it'll go straight in at #6 in my multiple mega build project. Hopefully I'll have the Spitfire painted by then, and perhaps the Sk50 as well, so I'll have some work space available for it when it arrives. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Some more progress has been made on my ongoing builds. The S31 has got colours. And I' m astonished by the results, miles better finish than I got with my paint brushes. 183 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 184 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr On with two light coats of clear gloss. 185 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 186 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I then let it rest for a day and started with the decals. 187 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 188 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 189 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 190 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I did get some silvering on a few decals, so I've dosed them with some stronger decal fluids and I think I'll have to give it some more before I can put some more clear coat on it. I've also worked on the Sk50 to get it ready for painting. The last small bits has been glued, and I took the time to drill out the exhaust pipes. 191 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've painted the frames on the inside of the canopy, all done free hand without masks with my lovely 15/0 paint brush. 192 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr i then spent three hours masking the outside of the canopy. Note to self, by ready made masks next time. 193 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr When the masking was done I had to sand in a few places to get the canopy to sit as intended. I'll check the seams tonight so that I don't have any gaps in it before I start spraying primer and colour to it. 194 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I got notice that I can pick up my AJ37 that I ordered last week, so I'll do that when I get home later today. It'll go straight up on the table, so I guess I'll do another update very soon. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. As I said yesterday I had some parcel to pick up with some new goodies for the worktable. Fist one containing some sanders and a new bottle of Tamiya Extra Thin. 195 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And some Israeli desert colours. 196 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And some greys for the Greek Ghost camo, and other schemes such as modern German Typhoons/Tornados. 198 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The second parcel contained my AJ37 Viggen. 199 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I went all-in with resin goodies for it. 200 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'll be doing this one as an early natural metal version based a F7 wing, i.e. the boxart minus the German Zappings. And I'll arm it with 4 rocket pods Bofors m/40, i.e. 24 135mm rocket. It's a bit funny that Maestro resin is cheaper to get in Poland, than at the manufacturer here in Sweden. 201 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr New and corrected pylons, also from Maestro. 202 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Improved thrust reversers and control surfaces from CMK 203 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Resin wheels and ejection seat, also from CMK. 204 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I had planned to start it right away yesterday, but a snowstorm hit Stockholm yesterday and it took a bit longer than planned to get home from work yesterday. But I'm planning to get right into it this evening. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Here comes a totally unplanned update. Yesterday I had the intention to start on the mighty Viggen, but thing got in the way. First I had some more sanding to do around the canopy on the Sk50 (no pictures) And then the J26 was in the way on the worktable, and I wanted it out of the way. But apparently I've glued the wing in the wrong place, I guess it should sit a bit further back. So now I've got to fill, putty, sand and polish quite a lot to get this to look right. 205 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 206 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 207 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And then the question if this kit could still be done in NMF, or if I should get new decals and do Blue November (Blå Niklas) from F16 Wing at Uppsala instead using this sheet from Moose Republic Decals. We'll see in a few weeks time which way I'll go. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Another weekend has come and gone. I didn't have that much time for building this weekend. My brothers and I are clearing out our Mothers apartment before we can sell it. And this time I went to the city dump two times with things none of us wants. The little time I had left for building was spent spraying my Sk50 yellow. 208 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'd sprayed a very thin layer to start with, and I had to lay seven layers of paint before I got a full cover. Must remember to lay a pink base next time I'll do a yellow/orange aircraft. 213 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 214 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've also been working on the wing roots on the J26. I filled the gaps with small pieces of plasticard, and the smeared some PPP on top of it. 215 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 216 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 217 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The plan for the coming week is to spray the S31 either Matt or Satin, clear coat the Sk50 and put on the decals and finally start on the Viggen. Marlin
Hi. Monday and time for a new update. I've now moved my paint shop from the kitchen, to the livingroom with the approval from the family. I'v bought myself a collapsible camping table measuring 80x60cm. 218 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I put it behind my work table, beside the windows in the livingroom. 219 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr My spray booth is still an old moving box, but I'll replace it with a proper one as soon as I can. The wrench is a great tool for opening paint pots. 220 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And now I only have to turn around from the bench to get to the paint shop. 221 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The moving boxes in the background isn't there of my laziness, since we got our flat back from the builders in November. The boxes contains all my books, and they'll will be moved into our new library in May when my daughter is moving out from the nest. Her old room will be turned into a library when she has vacated it. In the library we'll have two reading chairs, a small table and around five or six book cases. I've rescued two chairs from my mothers furniture that my brothers didn't want. During the weekend I've started to glue the Sk60 together. 222 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've sanded and polished the seams on the J26. 223 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The J26 has also got a black primer. Today I hope I can put on Xtreme Metal Black Base in preparation for the natural metal colours. 224 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've finally started on the Viggen. I think I built Esci's Viggen in 1980, or 1981. That was the last time I built a Viggen, so I guess it's time for a new one now. I've trimmed the details from the cockpit tub since I'll be using the PE parts included in the kit. 225 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'm also using a resin seat from CMK in this build. 226 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Let's have a pre-weekend on my progress during the week. During the last few days I've been busy with: Matt coating the S31. 227 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The J26 has got the gloss black base colour in preparation for the natural metal finish. 228 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've glued the rocket pods for the Viggen together, sanded and polished them. And I've also primed them as well as the cockpit parts and the prop for the J26. 229 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr On the Viggen I'm working on replacing the plastic pylons with Maestro's "improved" version. 230 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 231 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And during the week I took delivery of the first batch of my paint racks. 232 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I plan to paint the racks in a glossy white paint before I'll put them together. I also took delivery of a kit I've wanted to build since I was a kid. The Regal Ship Wasa in 1/144 from Airfix. 233 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I remember this kit from the seventies as one of the Holy Grail kit that I wanted as a kid. But I never got it, my best mate did and I don't think I've ever been so envious before in my life. But I don't think he ever build it. And looking in the box I wonder if I'm not insane for giving it a try. 234 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 235 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr All parts has to be cleaned and scraped from flash, then there is the vacuum formed sails and the rigging to do. And the rigging you have to do by yourself with thread and a jig supplied in the kit. I think I'll start to clean all the 64 bronze canons this evening, it'll take some time I think. Then I've got to learn how to do the "wood" painting of the hull, and then all figures in gold and other ccolours. I've planned to visit the Vasa Museum tomorrow, but the weather forecast isn't in my favor at the moment, so perhaps I'll re-schedule it for another weekend. I'd like to have a lot of own pictures of it to work with. And the wife and eldest son are way for a weekend in Berlin this weekend, so if I and the other youngsters don't got to Vasa Museum this weekend I guess I'll spend it at the bench instead. It's been quite awhile since I had a whole weekend to my self. To be continued..... /Bosse Edited March 24, 2023 by Marlin Spelling
Marlin
Hi. It's time to show what I did during the weekend. We didn't go to the Vasa Museum because of the weather. Instead I and the youngsters spent the weekend streaming several films. It was a fine time spent with my kids. But I also did some work on my ongoing builds. I've glued the PE to the Viggen cockpit. 236 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 237 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've also change the second pylon to Maestros resin version, but I seem to forgotten to take a picture of it. I've also primed the air intake in preparation for some aluminium paint before I glue them together. On the J26 I've started to paint the first aluminium colour. This is after the first layer. I plan to lay down one light cover each evening during this week, and with that I can start on the second colour during the coming weekend. 238 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 239 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr On Vasa I've glued the long boat together. The long boat will also act as my test subject for the wood painting. I wonder how I'll manage with that. 240 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 241 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've also started to clean up the 64 bronze canons. 242 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A tedious boring work, but it has to be done. And if I do some of them each evening I'll soon be done with them. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. It's time to show what I did during the weekend. I mostly sprayed some colours. 244 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The J26 had tried and I could mask the wings and lay down some polished aluminium. 243 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 245 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 246 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've also painted the air inlets on the Viggen with som Aluminium. 247 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I wasn't please with the paintwork in the B17, so I stripped the paint and started over with a, in my opinion, a better shade. 248 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've also now cleaned up 20 canons on the Wasa, no pictures of that. So my progress is about where I thought I would be right now. I think I can have the S31 and the Sk50 done in a week or two. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Here's an update on my Easter Holiday I spent at the cottage. Warning, this time there will be a lot of foody pictures. Calling @trickyrich @exdraken @reini @JeroenS We arrived on Maundy Thursday afternoon and was meet by a still wintery landscape. 252 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Not that the snow mattered that much. We hadn't planned any outdoor activites for Thursdag. No Thursday was a hockey night. My team, Väsby Hockey, is one of six teams that are currently playing for one place for promotion up the the next league. url=https://www.flickr.com/gp/156426495@N05/61rh57ju62][/url]249 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Well it was to be a long weekend in the cottage so that means that some nice food would be on the menu. We started out with a small shrimp sandwich and a Västerbotten Cheese pie with sourcreme, caviar and red onions which went down with a cold one. The game didn't go in my favour, but I still enjoyed it with a nice G&T. 250 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A Spruce Shoots flavoured tonic was real good with Bombay Citrus Presse. 251 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr On Good Friday I started to paint my newly bought paint racks that I'll dress my work table with. Raw MDF isn't that nice to look at in my opinion, so I'll paint them a glossy white. 253 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 254 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr After I had painted them once it was time to start to prepare Good Friday dinner. And since a few years back I always celebrate my birthday on Good Friday regardless of the date. This year I wanted a nice Surf n Turf. 255 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And actually, both the meat and the lobster were "left-overs" from New Years. A piece of Filet and a lobster we didn't use for New Years has spent some time in the freezer waiting for this day. When I lit the BBQ the sun had already started to melt away the last of this winters snow. 256 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And we could actually enjoy a bottle of New Zeeland bubbly on the patio in celebration of the arrival of Spring, and my birthday, while waiting for the BBQ. 257 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The lobster was cut in half and the beef seasoned only with freshly grinded Tellycheery Black Pepper and Himalaya Pink Salt. Some fresh asparagus and a lemon was also prepared for the grill. 258 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And one the grill everything went. 259 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And about 10 minutes later the meat was grilled to perfection. 260 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Some almond potato gratin and a very nice Aussie Shiraz from the a bit higher in price range was served with the meal. 261 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Later in the evening I lit a candle in memory of those who isn't among us anymore. 262 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Easter Saturday was much like Good Friday, nice weather and we could sit outside on the patio having some lovely tandoori marinated chcken legs, which was served with some more asparagus and the rest of the potato gratin. And of course Raita, which is a must when we're having indian influenced food. 263 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The weather was still nice and sunny on Easterday, some more food was consumed on the pation. And since it's a holiday in Sweden, pickled herring is a must. I downed my plate with some nice Easter beers from one of many small micro breweries that are popping up here in Sweden. 264 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr After a very good Easter holiday at the cottage we came home and I wondered with a slight feeling of fear how my J26 would look after I took the mask tape of the wings. I was afraid that I'd end up with some dreaded tape marks in the paint. 265 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But not so. I'd let the paint fully cure for four days before I masked the wings, and I de-tacked the tape by putting on the back of my hand about three times before I used them on the model. And apparently that did the trick. So yesterday evening I repeated the procedure and masked of the exhaust panel in preparation for some darker metal finish and the black walk way lines on the wings. 266 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And Yesterday was also a hockey night. And what better dinner in front of the tv is a pickled herring and some "knäckebröd" with cheese and a cold beer. 267 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr In one of the intervals I glued up the inlet channels for the Viggen. 268 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And now it's time for another weekend that I hope will contain some more modelling beside overtime work and household chores. To be continued..... /Bosse

Bengalensis
It always warms my heart to see you enjoying life's good, in addition to the modelling. Well earned! The metal finish of the J26 is taking shape very well too.
reini
@Marlin You've got more snow than we do! So I've got no excuses - I've gotta bring out my Weber and do some BBQ too 😎 Really enjoyed reading thru your posts about your new workroom and the great modelling project you have undertaken. I've had my workroom turned upside down too due to some electric renovations too for a while now but I'm now getting things back in place. Good opportunity to re-think and re-organize some of the elements in the room. Enjoy the spring!
trickyrich
Arrrr so this is where you have been hanging out.....and you didn't even let me know!! Not that I can talk, have been off the radar for a while as well. Wow you have been busy and a grand plan for the year as well....nice. Your updated apartment looks great and a nice work area as well, you must be very pleased. Plus you have moved to the dark side too.......... airbrushing!!! See what you have been missing, and from what I have seen so far you're a bit of a natural. That AK Real Color is my favourite go to paint now (as I can't get MRP stuff here), super nice to use and it gives you a super nice finish. That airbrush booth you're looking at is a must, I have a pair of them joined together (they just clip together) as most of my stuff is rather on the large size now, so really need that extra width. I actually think you may have out done me with all the AM stuff for the Viggen.......good lad! ....and speaking of Viggens I'm soon about to add a 3rd 1/32nd beast to the stash, this time a AJ-37 with big Robots!!! Ok now I know where you are hiding I'll have to come around a visit/annoy you more often!!!!! ....and yes now I am hungry, which is bad as I'm trying to loose weight!🙄
Marlin
Thanks all for all Likes and comments. Well now you know that I've not dropped of the Earth or something like that since I've not been active in the group builds. I've been very fortunate to have support from my family to have my workstation in the living room, and nobody has complained about any paint fumes. But the spray booth will be purchased. And I'll also buy more paint rack modules so I can have everything where I want it. At the moment I'm doing some overtime work, but later today I plan to do some more work, prefarbly on the B17, Viggen and Sk60. And perhaps I can finish the S31. Please feel free to comment on my work, both the BBQ and the modeling work. Take care. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. No foody pictures this time. I'd to work Saturday so we stayed home this weekend. When I'd finished working my lovely wife had got our balcony in order to be able to use it again after the renovation. The builder had replaced the windows on the balcony in the wrong order so they can't slide as the should be able to do. And the tracks were filled with debris so even if the windows was in the right order they still couldn't. And it took six month for someone to come a re-do the work. But now it's fixed and Anne put up our café table and chairs, and when I'd finished working invited me for a glass of wine on the balcony. 269 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr When the wine was finished I went to the worktable and sat down with the Sk60. First I hade to fix the main landing gears, I'd glued them somewhere between down and starting to retract. 270 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I then glued the intakes with their respective air channel together. I also put in the correct belly plate for the version I'm building and I also put as many lead weights in the nose cone I could fit. 271 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I had planned to work on the B17 and the Viggen, but I started to look at Vasa and all of a sudden I had cleaned up the stand and glued the side braces to it. Airfix also gives you a name plate, in English and Swedish, but don't tell you how to use it. So I measured it, and sanded the frame in one place, and glued it to the stand. 272 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I think I'll paint the stand in a Bronze colour so it blends in against the wooden hull of the ship. And then I came to the part that took almost all of my building time this weekend, the stern. 273 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I cut, sanded, filed and thought in all three dimensions to get it to sit right with a minimum of gaps for some hours. And when I got a fit I could live with I glued it to one side of the hull. 274 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And speaking of gaps. When I had to the stern plate in place I flooded the joining surfaces with liquid sprue from the inside to ge a really strong bond. 275 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I'm finally done with the 52 cannons on the lower decks. I've cleaned them all from flash, and also drilled them out. I still have the 14 cannons for the upper deck and their carriages to clean up. And I think there are more flash than plastic on the carriages. 276 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The plan for the week is to get the Sk60 built up so I can prime it, and glue the hull together on Vasa. To be continued..... /Bosse
JeroenS
Nice work Bosse, and it must be nice to be able to sit on your own balcony after so long and enjoy a glass of wine!
Marlin
Thanks Jeroen. Yes it was nice to finally have all things in the apartment fixed. And a glass of wine on the balcony the weekends we don't go to the cottage is always nice. It's rather a small balcony we have, but you can sit 2 at a time, and it's possible to squize in a third person, but that gets rather crowded. And in a months time my daughter will move out to an apartment of her own. Her twin brother left in September last year, so going from a room missing in our three bedroom apartment we'll go to a surplus room. We'll turn it into a library/study and finally Anne will have a quiet place to read in, and I'll have a proper place to work from home in. And I'll have a place for my book collection. /Bosse
trickyrich
Arrrr Bosse....... normally I would blame the usual crowd (they know who they are!!), but this time it's all your fault this time!!!!! After seeing your upgrade of your modelling area it sort of made me look at mine, I desperately needed more storage space, not for the ever growing stash , but for tools and such. So off to a visit of SHMBO favourite place, Ikea, and a lot lighter wallet (and associated back pain from all the heavy boxes), I have gone from this.... ...to this! Now I just have to figure out how to organise it.....probably not helped by the fact my new set of draws are way too wide...oh well...... 2
