Allan31
While enjoying my second cuppa this morning, I wandered into the model building cave and again wondered how I'm going to get that blue on my triplane. I had been poking around the www and found some online recipes I tried but didn't like. I have Paul Leaman's book and like it so I opened it up. I'm comfortable with all the research and detail he has in this so decided to try and match what's in there. On the third try, I think I got it at least close enough for my use. I painted a swatch and then photographed it under several lighting conditions, the last is in sunlight. This recipe is for Vallejo paints. 10- 71.001 White 5- 71.404 "Duck Egg Blue" 1- 71.004 Blue A satisfying morning, hope this helps. 1
europapete
That looks like a perfect match to me. Well done Allen.
wmcgill
For what it's worth. This is the blue found on a fragment of the underside of Fokker Dr.I 425/17 held by the IWM (EPH 3277) https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30082846
Bozothenutter
Remember though.....it's Anthony Fokker, a pragmatic if ever there was one....😉
Dogtail2
The coloured dope generally used on full size replicas which is generally accepted as a close match is Lakeland Blue if it helps for comparison. https://www.univair.com/paint-dope-fabric/view-all/randolph-colored-butyrate-dope-lakeland-blue/
RC Boater Bill
I find it interesting and helpful when people post the results of their search/tests- even more so when they include a specific recipe from a widely available line of paint. But I must confess to just using the bottles of RLM 65 that I already have for the blue. Two reasons: 1. It is a “close enough” match for my 1/72 builds. 2. I don’t display my models upside down. 😁
