HMS Surf S-Class Submarine, Starling Models 1/350

Recommended Posts

Fantastic job as ever Rob. The sub looks superb, and the sea is so very realistic.

You show such inspiring skill with these maritime subjects, so much so I was tempted to acquire this little one recently ......

Look what you've gone and done now. I thought if I am to try a small maritime subject, this would be ideal. Who knows if I get this one finished, it might inspire me back to that Vosper 🤫 (don't tell Stuart @Courageous)

Very nicely done.  Your WIP inspired me to get one of my own.

Thanks Martin - you wont be disapointed and lots of scope for different colour schemes

Thats very nice indeed! Mind if I ask how you did the water?

Thanks Sinnerboy, Styrofoam base (Cream variety from 4D models) with the sub profile scooped out - The sub is "planted" and any gap between carefully filled with acrylic paste (DONT use gel).  Some Liquitex acrylic Gloss medium applied crossways with a brush to form wavelets, several layers.  Painted with Vallejo acrylics and then 5-6 coats of Liquitex "High Gloss Varnish".

Another "moment in time" captured in model form thanks to your painting, weathering and presentation.

The placement of the figures is the icing on the cake; it looks like they are actually doing real work and haven't just been added for effect.

Thanks Rob. I'll copy that info & put it in my techniques file to give it a try.
