it is finally here!

🇸🇪,

after a long wait, Pilot Replicas released the Swedisch Saab SK 60 trainer/ liason aircraft in  1/48!

Pilot Replicas Saab SK 60

up until now, only a nice, but rather hard to build kit in 1/ was awailable for the lovers of this small guy!

operated by the Swedisch Airforce, and already retired by the Austrian Airforce end of 2020 (hope that will be the follow up version, has different, more powerful (J85!) engines and therefor a longer exhasut area  :))

lots of nice parts, (maybe simplify packaging? I had more heavy plastic bags after taking out the sprues that I could  every use... )

great looking decals for 4 schemes, 2 aluminum (natural metal?) and 2 camo schemes :)

some nice PE, and I also ordered the metal pitot tube of course ;)

first plastic is cut

fit seems great!, shape definitely is :)

more soon I hope!

which scheme would you prefer by the way?

any book/ literature out there that I absolutely need and do not know as of yet? 📚

thanks!

  • exdraken changed the title to Saab SK 60 Saab 105 Trainer, Swedish Airforce, Pilot Replicas 1/48

WOW, straight from the Postie's arms to the bench.

This will be fun to follow Werner.

I've also got mine last week, but I'll have to wait a bit until I can start mine since our flat is still under renovation.

I'll be doing mine as a standard trainer in aluminium.

Good luck with you build Werner.

There is an English summery if  I recall correctly.
This book is hard to find now, but there's not a lot of other reference publications out there for the SAAB 105

Already took a look at Bjorn's excellent build but that doesn't mean I won't follow yours with extreme interest.

there is also Matty's build by now.... :)

as both are in camo,  I will go for an A,uminum bird.

I assue they are in natural metal... at east the Austrian's were :)

some start on the pit

I also drilled out the perforated head rest side shields ( with a slightly too large drill... )

to be continoued ;)

  • 4 weeks later...

small update:

landing gear bays need (should I guess) be prepared first and landing gear inserted... surely make assembly easier.. not sure about painting though!

aDm3NOS.jpg

istructions are a bit of a puzzleto me... but I guess stuff is right like that now (I hope)

C78h1si.jpg

the SK60 has a pop out airbrake on each side...

can be shown deployed, semi deployed or flush

jYBU5S4.jpg

not sure yet... would the holes be drilled out by the way?

cockpit basically prepated for .... what exactly?? ;)

B1sirzY.jpg

nose weight is needed,,, I cut some nuts.. little space, very little!

kRPR3gL.jpg

lets see how all works out,

cheers,

happy new year to all!

May we hope for one of these flashy Austrian "Anniversary/Tiger Meet" schemes?

for sure... but not yet... ;)  this will be a Swedish machine :)

EDIT: a nice article about the SK60

https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/02989753/files/uploaded/Sk 60.pdf

the Austrian Saab 105Oe is an upgraded jet with different and stronger J85 engines based on the Saab 105 XT development. (fighterbomber ... with ground attack and recce capability)

this engine difference leads to a different shroud around the nozzle and maybe intake. This version is planned by Pilot Replicas  as well :)

update regarding the model:

the airbrakes are currently movable ;)  I hope it stays that way!

KSEZS5y.jpg

I managed to close the fuselage without any fuss :)

just the landing gear needs better glueing,,,, probably using CA,

I must not forget to add the small side windows....  :wall:

engine nacelles basically completed minus the intake splitter,. Will only add this afte painting due to the small cabin windows need to be inserted first.... :)

upper wing mounts easily as well, some cleanup will be needed at the joints mostly I guess to me not dry-fitting enough ....

and the lower wing halfs then just slip in :)
