1:48 (ish) Moebius Aries 1B from 2001: A Space Odyssey

Recommended Posts

The new kit from Moebius of the Aries 1B Moon Shuttle from 2001: A Space Odyssey arrived while I was building the older Space Clipper kit from them a few weeks ago. It seem obvious then to stay in the 2001 groove and built the Aries. its a large kit - 30cm tall, 25cm diameter with lots of opportunity for lighting. As I was building this, the only options for figures were some expensive and pretty ropey looking 3D printed figures. However in the last week some new figures have been announced from a different 3D printer which look better and are not so expensive. Still, its too late for me, this build was hard enough to get together as it was so I'm NOT taking it apart to add figures!!!

The WIP is here:

The landing legs are foldable - they feel a bit flimsy so most of the time they stay folded, they only get unfolded for display and photography purposes :)

Okay, cue the Blue Danube...

Meanwhile on the Ryanair moon shuttle, they are showing Event Horizon, Alien 3 and Mooncrash.

Superb build, wish I had the room and time for some Moebius.

The on-board entertainment is well presented in your model. They always show old movies there 🤣

Just treated myself to one of these. I came here to get some building tips but as usual I've been put off because I'll never achieve such quality!

I have a question about this model. There's a build video on YouTube in which the modeller says that there's a mistake in section 8 of the instruction sheet in that the numbers of the cam stop parts have been reversed. He says that if fitted as shown the landing gear won't deploy properly. Is this the case?spacer.png

Um, I honestly don't remember having a problem with this. The construction is tricky, needs a lot of care but my landing gear does deploy and lock correctly. Sadly its all closed up now so I can't check :) This is the closest pic I've got of this part of the build...

I'm sure you would have remembered if it was an issue. There are actually a few builds on YouTube so I'll check them all and see if anybody else raises it.
