Bullbasket
The Tamiya OD went on very well. The wheels/tyres look good also. Enjoy your Christmas. Jon.
Geo1966
Not a lot of progress over the festive period, but I did manage to paint some of the stowage. Firstly, base coated in a couple of colours. I wrote down which colours I was using to save my brain from trying to remember. For some crazy reason I decided to remove the straps on the curved tarp and replace them with cotton to simulate rope. Then I gave it all an enamel wash. Panzer grey for the one on the left and brown for the others. Then did the highlights with the original colour, before brushing on some matt varnish. I might tinker with these a bit more when they are in situ. George

Geo1966
Not an update on the Staghound, but somebody on here mentioned about using a sewing needle to apply CA glue. So I knocked up my own version. I snipped the end off the needle and glued it into a skewer. It magically sucks up the glue with capillary action and seems to work quite well for applying small amounts of glue. After your finished you can clean it by burning the remaining glue off with a lighter. George
Geo1966
Have given the Staghound a couple of coats of highlights. I tried to do the “mottled” effect I have seen others do on here, but my airbrushing skills are not quite up to it. Have also base coated the stowage/tools and given the whole thing a coat of VMS satin varnish. I really like the VMS varnishes, but it is quite scary the way you are supposed to apply them. They recommend a really heavy coat, but when it dries it levels really well and looks spot on. I gave the cam net a dry brush of grey green, but not sure. Any thoughts, should I maybe go for a dark green? I also think I might have to re-do the strap holding the stowage on the back deck. I used AV English uniform, but am thinking it looks a bit stark. 2 Hope everybody had a good New Year. George
Trevor L
I'm a bit wary of airbrushing highlights as well, but I think you've done a good job with that. Nice stowage too.
edjbartos
That looks fabulous George., I really like the highlights and the mottled effect looks bang on. That's a really good start to doing your weathering from now on. This will end up being a really nice model... Ed
StuartH
Looking superb. I know exactly what you mean regarding the VMS varnishes though they always seem to come good. I really rate their products. Stowage looks great especially the straps holding the camo net 👍
Bullbasket
Very nice work George. As to the camnet. I'd dry brush it with a mid brown if I was you. We were still using similar camnets in the '60s (a rope like mterial, weighed a ton when it was wet........and it usually was), and from (distant) memory, it was a brownish colour. HTH's. The Mottled effect is far from what i had in mind, I think i need to do a bit of practice on a piece of paper before trying it again. Anyway, as you say hopefully the weathering will help to blend it in. 17 hours ago, StuartH said: Looking superb. I have also recently discovered Modellers World who do some good Oil washes amongst other things. 15 hours ago, Bullbasket said: Very nice work George. As to the camnet. Thank you kindly John. Don't remind me of wet camnets 😱. I remember them being more green and a some sort of nylon in the 80's. The plan for this one was that it is a captured net as i have not added the cloth stripes. I think brownish sounds like a good plan though. Geo1966
The decals are on. Bit of a breeze applying these as opposed to the Meteor I am building. There must be about 50 to add to that. They went on really well with only a minimal carrier film around them, although they do seem a bit thick. I did manage to scratch the tonnage marker (what is the correct name for this please?). I think I will make the scratch, into a scratch when I do the chipping rather than try and match the yellow. Strangely there is only a “star” on one side, not sure if that is correct? I have also given them another blast of VMS varnish. Next job is to open up and paint the hatches inside and get them mounted. George

JackG
Coming along very nicely, great job with the stowage as well. The yellow disc with black number (15) is the bridge classification. Basically a bridge identified with a lower number than 15 would not be able to handle the weight of the Staghound. The basic Staghound carried a bridge class of 14, so not sure if it was increased to reflect the 6 pdr gun, or I think I read somewhere bridge classification was standardized to increments 5. 4

Thanks for the info Jack. I would imagine the Crusader turret would add a bit of weight compared to the normal turret shown in the photo. 14 hours ago, Stef N. said: Very impressive, high quality model making George. Muchmirth
Seeing this really makes me want to build one. It has a really aesthetically pleasing shape for some reason. Great job!

Geo1966
A fair bit of progress over the last week, greatly helped by still being off work. Unfortunately, the guy with the Sten gun is not going to make the final cut. I managed to break his Sten and one of his hands went MIA. Managed to find a replacement in the spares box. If I remember rightly, he came with the Tamiya Churchill. I used a replacement rifle and tried to bend his hand around it, rather unsuccessfully. You can see the slight difference in size between the Tamiya and Alpine figures. I might take my final photos in black and white and leave these guys as they are 😆 George
Geo1966
I have also done most of the chipping and the pin wash. I am never sure which to do first. I looked at a few of Uncle Nightshift’s video and he seems to sometimes do the pin wash first and other times the chipping. Maybe it doesn’t matter? I took John's @Bullbasket advice and have dry brushed the camnet again in a brown colour. I think I have overdone the chipping a bit, but I couldn’t help myself. Need to sort out the tools and tow cable next, plus tidy up a few bits. Also need to put the wing mirrors at some point. George
Trevor L
It's easy to get carried away but I think the chipping looks fine, not at all overdone. 1
Maginot
I like your careful weathering very much. Also, the gubbins chucked on the back. Nice work. Are you enjoying building a Bronco kit? I like the look of 'em in the box.
